Famous American Burger Chain Shake Shack To Finally Open In Australia Next Week – Heres Where To Find It

With the Australian Open kicking off on Monday, January 12, tennis fans (and food lovers) have just one week to wait before the cult US burger chain makes its long-anticipated debut on Australian soil.

The New York-born brand will pop up at TOPCOURT and John Cain Arena throughout the tournament, which runs from January 12 to February 1, marking the first time Australians can buy a Shake Shack burger without boarding a long-haul flight.

For many, the timing couldn’t be better. The AO has evolved far beyond a traditional tennis tournament, and Shake Shack’s arrival cements its status as one of the country’s biggest summer festivals.

Shake Shack will be serving burgers inside TOPCOURT, a brand-new entertainment precinct located at Birrarung Marr, just outside Melbourne Park, as well as at John Cain Arena.

It is set to become one of the hottest tickets of opening week.

Designed with a Gen-Z and festival-first crowd in mind, the open-air precinct will blend live electronic music, food pop-ups, gaming and culture into one riverside destination – all accessible with a Ground Pass ticket.

During Opening Week, the precinct will host live performances from international and Australian acts including Hot Chip, Elderbrook and The Presets, alongside rotating food offerings and activations.

Fans can watch world-class tennis during the day, then head to the designated area at night for DJs and drinks with a Shake Shack burger in hand.

The Aussie outlet of the famed US burger chain will serve up its iconic ShackBurger – a single cheeseburger with a smashed Angus beef patty, melted American cheese, tomato, lettuce and secret ShackSauce on a toasted potato bun.

The pop-up will also offer an exclusive Australian Open Shake, which will only be available at TOPCOURT throughout January.

Shake Shack’s impending arrival has already generated huge excitement online, with hundreds of Australians sharing their reactions after the announcement.

‘What?!? World’s best burger finally hits Melbourne. Do I need to start lining up now?’ another added.

One non-tennis fan even admitted: ‘Honestly can’t stand tennis but I’m tempted to go just for this.’

But not everyone is convinced. Some Aussies have raised concerns that the burgers may come with a premium price tag.

‘$50 for a burger chips then, is it?’ one person joked.

The latest addition to the tournament’s court-side amenities was announced at the media launch on October 7 (pictured, Aryna Sabalenka on the big screen as Craig Tiley, CEO of Tennis Australia, speaks during the Australian Open 2026 Media Launch)

Another said: ‘I imagine everything is a fortune.’

A third questioned the choice of an international brand, adding: ‘Absolutely love Shake Shack when I’m in the US, but we have our own Aussie version that would be much better alignment: Betty’s Burgers.’

Following the official media launch in October, Tennis Australia’s Fern Barrett said Shake Shack’s arrival reflects how much the Australian Open has grown.

‘Shake Shack’s arrival at the AO underlines how much this event has grown beyond the court. It’s a festival of food, sport and culture,’ she said.

‘Innovations such as expanded in-seat ordering for those in accessible seating, precinct roving vending to cut down queue times, and new automated snack services across the precinct have all been designed to make it easier than ever to grab what you need and get straight back to the tennis.’
