Secrets Of The 2025 African Cup Final.. Who Is The “voice Of Reason” That Convinced Mane Not To Withdraw?

The match was about to be canceled as angry Senegal fans attempted to storm the field after the referee decided to award a controversial penalty kick in favor of the hosts, the Moroccan national team, in stoppage time of the second half, just minutes after canceling a goal that seemed completely correct for Senegal.

Security personnel clashed with fans on the field, and some Senegal players had an angry reaction to the comments of the Moroccan substitutes, which led to a quarrel between the players of the two teams on the touchline.

Senegal national team coach Pape Thiaw led his players off the field, hinting that the match could be canceled before the penalty kick was taken, while clashes continued on the other side, where a long line of police joined security personnel to repel the Senegalese fans.

The French newspaper “L’Equipe” revealed the details of the critical moments that preceded the return of the Senegalese team to the field, where the veteran French coach, Claude Le Roy, played the role of the “godfather” of the return.

Le Roy, who was on the field to analyze the match, took advantage of his proximity to the touchline to give decisive advice to captain Sadio Mane, assuring him that completing the match was the only option to preserve the team’s pride and avoid historic penalties.

It seems that Sadio Mane responded to the French coach’s advice, as he pushed his teammates to return in order to take the Morocco penalty kick and resume play after a 14-minute delay.

Lamine Kamara, the Senegal national team player, said, “We were in the dressing room, and he (Sadio Mane) was the only one who came in and shouted at us to go out and finish the match. In the end, he was right. We went out and listened to him because if Sadio Mane speaks, everyone listens, and in the end things went well for us.”

Senegal’s goalkeeper Edouard Mendy easily blocked Brahim Diaz’s weak penalty kick attempt, which was the last game in regular time, and then the match moved to extra time, where Papi Gueye scored the winning goal in the fourth minute of the first extra period with a powerful shot that landed in the upper right corner of goalkeeper Yacine Bounou’s goal.

Papi Guy said, “What we felt was a kind of injustice. Before that, we thought we deserved a goal and the referee did not go to VAR.

Sadio Mane told us to come back and we reorganized, then Edouard Mendy made the save. We maintained our focus, scored the goal and won the match.”
