Men are outspending women on beauty and wellness products designed to promote good health as well as good looks, research has found.

Some moisturisers, body lotions and caffeine shampoos are designed to not only boost appearances but also improve skin and hair health.

Men and women were asked how much they spend across price ranges from less than £10 to over £250 a year.

Men were found to outspend women in the top range.

Some eight per cent said they spend more than £250 a year – the highest spending category – compared with just four per cent of women.

Women marginally outspend men in the lowest price range, with ten per cent spending less than £10 compared with eight per cent of men.

On average, men spend £79 per year on so-called hybrid beauty-wellbeing products compared to £68 spent by women.

Almost half of all adults – 49 per cent – have used a hybrid beauty-wellness product in the last year.

Buy now, pay later website Clearpay surveyed 2,000 adults for the study.

Millie Kendall, of the British Beauty Council said: ‘The data confirms hybrid wellness-beauty products are no longer niche, but rather the new standard.

‘The boundaries between beauty and wellness are blurring, as UK consumers – and increasingly men – embrace hybrid products that deliver both cosmetic and health benefits.’
