Woolworths Employee Flips Out Over New Item That Sold Out In A Day These Will Be The Death Of Me

A Woolworths employee has shared their frustration online after a viral new dessert sold out in less than 24 hours – leaving staff to deal with a wave of disappointed (and furious) customers.

Posting to Redditthe worker said their store received around 90 of the now-sold-out Cinnabon cakes, which disappeared almost immediately.

‘These cakes will be the death of me. We had 90 shipped in and they sold out in a day, I swear. Then, since the website is s***, it hasn’t updated our system, so people still think we have it in store,’ the employee wrote.

‘The amount of people who can’t understand the word “no” is insane. I think most customers think the back is a magical portal where I can summon anything they want.’

The rant struck a chord with current and former retail workers across Australia, many of whom said they’d experienced the same nightmare whenever a popular new item hit the shelves.

‘That whole “do you have any out the back?” used to really burn my toast. If we had any out the back, we’d sure as s*** be bringing them into the store to sell them!’ one commenter wrote.

Another recalled being asked for ‘fresher apples’ kept in storage.

‘I walked around for a few seconds, came back and said “nah mate”, because it felt too insulting to ask why we’d keep fresher stock out back,’ they said.

One Woolies worker said the biggest issue is the company website showing incorrect stock levels in regard to items like the Cinnabon cakes

One Woolies worker said the biggest issue is the company website showing incorrect stock levels.

‘People come in furious because it says online that we have it. Then when we don’t, they look at me like I’ve personally hidden it from them.’

Others agreed, saying online shopping and stock-tracking tools have created unrealistic expectations.

‘Maybe blame the website instead of the people who dare to believe what it tells them,’ one person said.

‘Most customers have no idea how supply chains or stock tracking work – and they shouldn’t need to.’

Retail workers also shared their most absurd encounters with determined customers.

‘When I first started at Woolies, a man asked for something I hadn’t learned yet. Before I could even offer to help him find it, he said, “You work here – you should know where everything is!”,’ one person said.

Another joked that some shoppers seem to think there’s ‘a whole other supermarket’ behind the stockroom doors.

Workers said they’d seen customers buy up the entire stock of cult-favourite products – such as Clinkers chocolates or limited-edition Cinnabon hot cross buns – within hours of arrival

‘It’s wild. People genuinely think there’s a secret vault full of cakes and Cinnabon hot cross buns back there.’

Others said they’d seen customers buy up the entire stock of cult-favourite products – such as Clinkers chocolates or limited-edition Cinnabon hot cross buns – within hours of arrival.

‘Whenever those Clinkers bags come in, people buy five at a time,’ one worker admitted.

From mud cakes to bakery collaborations, Woolworths’ dessert launches often go viral on TikTok and Reddit, with shoppers rushing to stores the moment a new flavour appears online.

But as staff pointed out, not every store gets the same stock – and online availability doesn’t always mean it’s sitting in the freezer.

For now, staff say the best approach is simple – if you see the cakes in store, grab them fast.

Because by the time the website catches up, they’re probably already gone.
