In 2022, the RT channel of the Russian “TV-Novosti” Foundation and the Orthodox TV Foundation (SPAS) filed a lawsuit against Google for blocking their channels on YouTube. A court in Moscow called on the company to return the channels and pay fines to the two institutions. After Google refrained from compliance, the Russian media resorted to international courts. Later on Google, Google began defending itself before the American judiciary. However, a California court recently ruled that Google has no legal basis to file a lawsuit on the issue before the American judiciary.

The California court decision applies to the “RT” and “Spas” channels. For the latter, the decision is immediately applied, and for “RT”, the decision will come into effect after obtaining the approval of the foreign investment control office of the US Treasury, due to the sanctions imposed on it.

TV-Novosti and the Orthodox Television Foundation (SPAS) believe that this agreement represents the first step towards resolving disputes with Google, including lifting the ban on the two institutions channels on YouTube.

It should be noted that Google had also banned the channels of many Russian media on YouTube, such as “VGTRK” and “NTV”, the channel for the editor -in -chief of “Russia Sigodia” and “RT” Margareta Simonian, as well as other Russian channels.
