An Aussie driver has amused followers online after pulling off what many are calling a perfectly timed act of ‘petty kindness’ in front of a parking ranger on a busy Sydney street.
Max Dimarco, an online fitness coach, was parked in St Leonards when he noticed a parking inspector lingering around the car in front of him well before paid parking officially began.
In a TikTok video that has since clocked than 547,000 views, Max filmed the moment he realised what was unfolding, explaining the ranger appeared to be pacing back and forth as she waited for the meter to tick over.
‘She’s waiting and taking photos of the car right now … it doesn’t start till 8.30, so she still has six minutes, but she’s already taking the photos ready to fine them,’ he said in the

Rather than drive off or keep watching, Max decided to intervene – albeit in a way he openly admitted was driven by a desire to be ‘petty’.
Waiting until 8.29am, just one minute before paid parking kicked in, Max jumped out of his car to pay for his own spot, and then surprised the ranger by paying for the car parked in front as well, using its number plate.
‘One for the good guys!’ he declared, revealing he had topped up the stranger’s parking by an extra hour at a cost of $8.
The move appeared to derail the ranger’s plans entirely.

‘The ranger is not happy, she stormed off… she looked at her machine and she was so p**sed,’ Max laughed, later calling the stunt his ‘new favourite hobby’.
But the story didn’t end there for the Good Samaritan.
In a follow-up video, Max revealed the owner of the car he’d paid for eventually returned, only to find a fine slapped on her windscreen regardless.
When she explained that she planned to dispute it but didn’t have any proof, Max stepped in.
‘Today’s your lucky day,’ he told her, explaining he had taken a photo showing the parking had been paid and he text her the photo as proof.
The woman offered to reimburse him for the $8, but Max refused.
‘She told me that ‘people like you make the world a better place,’ he recalled.
‘I took the compliment, but I wasn’t doing it out of the goodness of my heart, I was doing it so to be petty to the inspector. I don’t know if I deserve the credit for being a good person in this one.’
Max caught a parking ranger waiting to issue fines, then jumped in at 8.29am to pay for both his spot and a stranger’s, declaring the $8 gesture ‘one for the good guys!’
‘The ranger is not happy, she stormed off,’ Max laughed in the clip that has now amassed 547,000 views, later calling the stunt his ‘new favourite hobby’
‘We’re like a team now… this might be my new favourite hobby.’
The clip quickly struck a nerve online, with hundreds of commenters cheering on his actions and venting their own frustrations with parking enforcement.
‘100/10 pettiness and we’re all here for it!!’ one follower wrote.
‘You can still be a good person while being petty!’ another added.
Others took pointed jabs, with one commenting: ‘My ex is a parking inspector. I hope someone is like you on every one of his shifts,’ while another claimed rangers ‘act like they’re working for commission’.
Some even reminisced about alternative approaches to parking enforcement, with one user writing: ‘On the Gold Coast, there are Meter Maids who do exactly this… my dad and sister have been saved by them before.’
While opinions remain divided over whether Max’s actions crossed a line or simply levelled the playing field, his small gesture has reignited a familiar Australian debate about parking fines – and earned him ‘hero’ status among fed-up drivers nationwide.
