With the festive season fast approaching, it’s time to start thinking about your Christmas decorations. Will you stick with the traditional colour scheme of reds, golds and greens? Or will you go down an alternative route – maybe try something more minimalist and monochrome; or go all out and make your home even merrier and brighter?
If you’re in need of inspiration, then keep scrolling because we checked in with six of our favourite homeware brands to see what Christmas décor trends will be defining the season…
Tablescaping
At H&M Homethis holiday season is all about storytelling through the table. ‘We’re seeing customers reach for pieces that feel personal and thoughtfully collected, rather than perfectly matched,’ says its Head of Design & Creative, Evelina Kravaev-Söderberg.
‘Our new collection captures this mood, with slogan tableware, tactile linens and statement glassware. It’s about layering textures and materials that feel real and lived-in, creating a warm, inviting atmosphere that’s effortlessly festive.’
Merry & Bright
M&S is building on last year’s success with even merrier and brighter Christmas decorations. ‘We have gone bigger and better, expanding our range with designs inspired by popular foods, drinks, hobbies and interests,’ says its Head of Design, Karen Thomas. ‘Bright colours, high shine finishes and glitter details bring the product to life. Tinsel is making a come-back and we are so excited about our tinsel trees and accessories.’
Stairscaping
Forget about the Christmas tree, according to John Lewis the staircase is the canvas for your home’s biggest festive statement. ‘We’re talking full-scale, dramatic staircase styling,’ says its Head of Christmas, Lisa Cherry.
‘The key is layering. Fill the garland generously with decorations – think traditional bell and bow baubles. Incorporate the homespun aesthetic by tucking in hand-crafted felt decorations that add some humour. And for a finishing flourish, use a wide ribbon in a stripe or gingham pattern to create oversized bows at the posts.’
Midnight Luxe
This holiday season, Next is capturing the elegance of monochrome minimalism by swapping out the traditional colour palette for sleek black, white and soft neutrals. The new Christmas collection leans into understated sophistication, where every detail matters from perfectly placed stripes and bows to create minimalist luxury.
Nutcrackercore
With ballet references making a comeback in both fashion and interiors, Etsy believes Nutcrackercore is the natural festive extension. ‘It’s a style that is as dreamy as it is ornate,’ says its Trend Expert, Dayna Isom Johnson. ‘From gilded accents to deep jewel tones and plush velvet touches, it’s all about small moments of delight in the most unexpected places.
The magic truly lies in the details: think sparkling amethyst glassware on the dinner table, a ruby-red velvet throw adding warmth to a reading nook, or a Christmas tree adorned with toy soldier motifs and dainty ballet dancers. And when in doubt, add velvet. Whether it’s on stockings, ribbons or table runners, those rich textures instantly bring the fantasy to life.’
Humble Cheer
George Home’s Humble Cheer décor trend is inspired by playful retro design and the warmth of family togetherness. Classic Christmas reds sit alongside deep greens, soothing sage and soft light blue to create a cheerful yet calming palette, while mismatched details, handmade touches and festive centrepieces spark a little nostalgia.
