Sarah Discovered Her Boyfriend Of 10 Years Was Living A Double Life

A heartbroken girlfriend has detailed the moment she discovered her boyfriend was living a double life with another woman after scrolling through social media – and his mum knew all along but kept it a secret from her.

Sharing her story with Australian podcasteverybody has a secrethosted by Ruby Hall, Annabelle Lee and Charlotte White,Sarah said she has been keeping her relationship with David under wraps for 10 years – despite knowing he cheated on her.

The ‘young and ambitious’ couple began dating in their early 20s. Just months into their ‘love bubble’,  Sarah was offered a job interstate so they tried long distance.

‘We made it work, I would fly back and forth, and we were always on the phone,’ Sarah explained.

‘Then David got an opportunity to move overseas, which was a huge career moment for him. We still stayed in contact constantly with calls, texts, love notes and made one-day plans.

‘I kept telling myself, ‘love like this was rare and worth holding on to’. But it got really difficult. COVID happened and we didn’t see each other for two-and-a-half years.’

The pair were four years into their relationship when Sarah discovered David had a secret girlfriend named Fiona.

‘I stumbled across her social media by complete accident through a tagged photo. Her profile revealed pictures of them kissing in public and posing with her family,’ Sarah recalled.

‘I continued scrolling to find two years’ worth of evidence, photo after photo for everyone to see.

‘David had been living a double life.’

Furious, she confronted David over the phone.

‘He admitted it. He said “it just sort of happened” and that he didn’t know how to stop it. But he added, “Not to worry, as it wasn’t serious, you are the real thing, Sarah”,’ she explained.

‘My world collapsed. I couldn’t eat, I was a wreck, I don’t know what hurt , the betrayal or how easily the lies just slipped out of his mouth?’

Months later, he returned home for the holidays and begged to see her.

‘I caved,’ she said.

‘My friends tried to convince me not to, but I didn’t listen. He was apologetic and convinced me that he would end it with her.’

Sarah said she didn’t trust him so she decided to ‘cut out the middleman’ by messaging the other woman directly.

‘She was warm and calm and had no idea about me,’ she said.

‘Turns out he’d been playing both of us with the same promises the entire time. He never actually ended it with her.’

But the biggest betrayal was finding out David’s mum knew about him dating both women at the same time.

‘Get this, his mother back home knew the entire time as well and kept it from me because I would (still) see her regularly,’ Sarah said.

‘David once again swore it was finally over and that he would go to therapy.

‘I should have walked away then, but I didn’t.’

For nearly 10 years, Sarah said had been with David – despite everything that’s happened.

‘He’s a secret to everyone,’ she said.

‘This all happened a while ago, so since then we’ve been together in secret.’

David is set to return home for good, so he wants to tell all their family and friends about their 10-year relationship.

‘I don’t know what to do,’ Sarah said.

‘He’s hurt me deeply, but he still feels like my person. Do I walk away from a love I’ve clung to for nearly a decade?’

The video has been viewed than 40,000 times on Instagram – with many urging Sarah to walk away from the relationship.

‘He did it once, he will do it again,’ one suggested.

‘You’ve wasted enough of your good years on this one. Don’t waste another second. This isn’t love and he doesn’t respect you,’ another shared.

‘The length of a relationship does not equate to the quality of it. Walk away before you end up not forgiving yourself for ignoring your needs and happiness. Men like this don’t change, he is disrespecting you, your health, time and emotions,’ one said.

‘Run, run away! All that time wasted on one person! That one person that isn’t you,’ another added.
