Every week, Femail asks two singletons to report back from their blind date.
This week, it was Sylvie and Chris’s turn to see if they were a match.
Here’s what happened.
Sylvie, 57
Dating past?
This و week, و it – تفاصيل مهمة
I left my husband after 30 years together because I felt he was too intense to live with. We’re friends now though. I had to stop working 18 months ago because of a frozen shoulder so I have been focused on healing myself rather than finding love again.
Pre-Date nerves?
No, I like adventure. Last month, I spent three-and-a-half weeks in Fiji on my own and applied for this date from the beach. If we don’t get on, I’ve promised myself another glass of wine.
First impressions?

Chris made a good impression – he stood up to shake hands and was neatly dressed in chinos and a smart shirt. He’s slim, a bit taller than me, and has a decent head of hair (some men don’t). I’d spent a small fortune on my outfit – my matching shoes and handbag cost over £300. But I’m worth it! I didn’t get any compliments from Chris but I didn’t pay him any either.
Vital Statistics
Separated for six-and-a-half years, four children.
Current role:Retired massage therapist.
Would like to meet:Someone with a zest for life, who has dealt with his issues. No to any man who wants a partner to act like his mother or therapist.

Easy to talk to?
No, Chris was shy so I directed the conversation. I found out he was a semi-professional footballer and used to play a lot of ice hockey, too. He’s got an 18-year-old daughter who sounds like a classic teenager and doesn’t share much with her dad. Chris didn’t seem interested in my Fiji trip.
Embarrassing moments?
Only that our scallops arrived on a weird-looking bed of seaweed, which I attempted to eat (Chris had a nibble, too). We concluded it was for decoration only.

Did sparks fly?
There was no chemistry, no connection and no laughter. Nor was there one iota of flirting on either side of the table, although we had a lovely meal. I’m relieved he didn’t ask for my number, as these days I know how to say no. It could have been awkward.
See him again?
No, we don’t have much in common, and I’m adventurous and bubbly than Chris. I’d end up as a bit of a therapist for him and I’m past that now. It’s a role I’ve played too many times in my relationships.
and و a و no – تفاصيل مهمة
What do you thinkhe thought of you?
I’ve no idea, as Chris is a closed book. He didn’t seem interested in my life either. When I mentioned I’d stopped working as an intuitive masseuse and gong therapist because of a frozen shoulder injury, there were absolutely no follow-up questions.
Would your family like him?
No, but not in a mean way. They’d just be concerned he didn’t seem remotely intrigued about what kind of a woman I am.

Chris, 50
Dating past?
I’ve never been married or even got to the point where I have proposed either. I’m not anti-marriage though. I’ve had three long-term relationships, with the longest at just under three years. My daughter blows hot and cold about me settling down. I’ve used the apps but I’m currently not on any of them.
Pre-date nerves?
Yes, the thought of meeting a stranger really gave me the firstdate jitters.

First impressions?
I stood up and gave Sylvie a friendly smile and handshake when she arrived. She has an attractive, smiley face and a decent figure, too. I told her how great she looked.
Vital Statistics
Single for 18 months with a daughter, 17.
Current role:Building renovator.
and و a و I – تفاصيل مهمة
Would like to meet:Someone who is well-travelled, spontaneous and polite. No to anyone judgmental, loud or opinionated.
Easy to talk to?
Yes, although I did most of the talking. Sylvie asked lots of questions about my life, wanting to know about my career, parents and any family I have. She then pushed on with questions about whether I am a traveller. Sylvie doesn’t work any so is fixated on holidays. She seems very comfortable in her retirement status. I explained I’d been to the U.S., Europe and Egypt.
Embarrassing moments?
I و to و about – تفاصيل مهمة
There were no faux pas from my side of the table. Sylvie insisted on asking the waiter if the scallop dishes were the original shells – they’re not. They’re washed for each starter course and reused. It tickled her to know this.
Did sparks fly?
A little bit. There was a fair bit of eye contact and a few occasions when we leaned in close to one another to catch what the other person said. There were even some physical gestures when one of us wanted to emphasise a point. It was a good, heart-led conversation between us and despite being in a busy restaurant, we weren’t distracted by anyone else.
See her again?
a و to و There – تفاصيل مهمة
Yes, I’d like to because Sylvie has a zest for life and a sparkling personality. We didn’t hug or kiss goodbye because we were on a train and that would have been weird in front of other passengers.
What do you thinkshe thought of you?
I suspect she could tell I was nervous at first. But I lost those feelings pretty quickly and kept up a good conversation with her, even making her laugh. I can’t recall any specific jokes I told, but she did giggle a lot.
Would your family like her?

Yes. Sylvie is friendly, a good listener and a warm-hearted soul.
