A Former Ecuadorian National Team Player Was Killed After An Armed Attack
The club statement said: “FC Barcelona expresses its deep sorrow over the death of our player Mario Pineda, which was officially confirmed after he was subjected to an armed attack.”
According to information, the attack occurred in the city of Guayaquil, where two unidentified persons riding two motorcycles opened fire on the player.
In the north of Guayaquil, a hitman is reported in Samanes 4 where two people are dead and one injured, the deceased would be the Barcelona SC soccer player. Mario Pineida with his wife while the player’s mother is injured.

Ecuavista Noticias TV reported that Pineda’s wife and mother were with him at the time of the attack, and the attack resulted in the death of his wife, while his mother was injured and taken to the hospital for treatment.
Mario Pineda has previously played for a number of Ecuadorian clubs, most notably Independiente del Valle and Barcelona from Guayaquil, and he also had a short professional experience with the Brazilian club Fluminense on loan.
With Barcelona, he won the Ecuadorian League title twice, in addition to winning the country’s cup once.
At the international level, Pineda represented the Ecuadorian national team between 2014 and 2021, and played nine international matches for the national team.
