Donald Trump debuted a different winter look, and the internet thinks he was inspired by another politician. However, the viral moment was created because of a doctored photo.
On Saturday, Nov. 22, a clip of Trump, 79, wentviral on Xas users noticed the president was stepping away from his typical fashion choices. It also sparked comparisons to the style of New York City’s mayor-elect Zohran Mamdaniwho visited Trump at the White House a day prior.
A video of Trump wearing a red scarf underneath a black coat during a Fox News appearance went viral, after X user Aaron Rupar shared it with the caption, “Quite a look for Trump today.”
The clip has since amassed over 16 million views, along with thousands of replies and reposts — many of which point out the look’s similarities to past outfits worn by Mamdani, 34.

One post in particular used a doctored image of Mamdani, with the colors of his garments altered to match Trump’s red-and-black color scheme.
“No way he’s copying the look,” one X userwrotealongside the edited snapshot of Mamdani, which was taken in November 2023.
Others sharedmeme comparisonsincludingThe Office’s Michael Scott (Steve Carell) copying the clothing and facial hair of Ryan Howard (BJ Novak). “Trump dressing like Mamdani a day after meeting with him,” one personwrotealongside a photo ofThe Officemoment.
“He’s even dressing like him now lmao yesterday changed Trump’s life than we know,” another userwrotewhile one otherjokedthat Trump’s “stylists were taking notes” during Mamdani’s visit.

Following what both Trump and Mamdani called a “successful” private discussion, the duo took questions from the press.
Trump emphasized how impressed he was that the pair agreed on some major issues, while Mamdani repeatedly highlighted during the post-meeting presser that, throughout his mayoral campaign, he spoke with Trump voters in New York who routinely expressed that their biggest concern was the cost of living in the city.
He and Trump agreed that they both believe that’s an important issue moving forward, as is reducing crime and building new housing.
When asked by a reporter if he, as a former N.Y.C. resident, would “feel comfortable” living in the city “under a Mamdani administration,” Trump said he “would.”
“Yeah, I would. I really would. Especially after the meeting,” he told reporters. “We agree on a lot than I would have thought.”
