Urgent Recall Of Popular Phone Chargers Following Dangerous Fires

The INIU BI-B41 power bank chargers with a capacity of 10,000 mAh, available in black and blue, feature the INIU logo and LED lighting in the shape of a paw print on the front.

These units were sold on Amazon between August 2021 and April 2022 at a price of approximately 18 US dollars per unit.

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has warned that batteries may overheat, which could lead to fire and burns.

INIU reported receiving 15 reports of overheating of chargers, including 11 fires, which led to three minor injuries and material damage incidents estimated at approximately $400,000.

Consumers can identify the recalled devices by the model number and serial number printed on the bottom of the device, as the recall includes the following serial numbers: 000G21, 000H21, 000I21, and 000L21.

The committee urges consumers to immediately stop using these devices and follow the company’s instructions to return or replace them.

INIU confirmed that all other power banks of its models are unaffected and safe for normal use, noting that the recall came as a safety precaution.

It advised consumers to keep the charger in a cool, dry place until it is confirmed that the device is included in the recall, while clarifying that lithium-ion batteries require special treatment and should not be disposed of in regular trash.

Last June, Anker recalled than 1 million portable charging batteries, including the PowerCore 10000 model, after receiving 19 reports of fires and explosions, two minor burn injuries, and 11 cases of property damage valued at than $60,700. These batteries were sold between June 2016 and December 2022 at prices starting at $25.99.

Anker warned that the problem with lithium-ion batteries could lead to overheating, melting of plastic components, smoke emission, and fires.
