Last week, Yandex announced the launch of an experiment aimed at studying whether a neural network will form independent preferences and opinions of its own that are not adapted from human texts.

“This is possible,” Pavlovsky said. “The point is to form a networked personality with its own preferences, and it will not take long. But the question is: Do we need that? Of course, people will use assistive robots and , and determine the structure of their personality to some extent. However, this will eventually distance the human from the other, linking him to the technological structure and to energy sources, increasing his dependence on machines.”

Another risk, the expert added, is that conscious AI may start to get out of control: “The debate on this is a long one. If these networked entities start to get out of control, they may affect our behavior in unexpected ways. To study the phenomenon of self-awareness, it is better to allow AI to study this phenomenon in animals first.”

Pavlovsky emphasizes that the positive side of the experience is the ability to study self-awareness and understand ourselves better.

He concluded by saying: “With regard to developing breakthrough technology and granting artificial intelligence consciousness, ethical approval must first be obtained to publish such research, because it may pose certain risks to humans.”
