According to Kat, her friend first met the Aussie man when he travelled to New York and joined their group for drinks over several nights.

‘Basically, my boyfriend’s friend came to visit (New York) from Australia,’ Kat explained.

‘My best friend and he started getting along.’

After spending multiple nights out together, Kat revealed the man eventually stayed at her friend’s apartment before returning home, but not before suggesting they stay in touch.

For than two months, Kat detailed how the pair texted constantly, spoke on the phone almost every day and flirted across a 14-hour time difference.

All going well, Kat said the Australian man encouraged her friend to visit him over Christmas, offering to host her and ‘the whole nine yards.’

Trusting his enthusiasm, Kat’s friend booked a $1,700 ($A2,550) non-refundable flight to Australia – a decision she would soon come to regret.

However, about a week later, Kat said things began to shift and her friend noticed the man growing distant, drinking heavily and becoming harder to reach, but she had brushed it off as work stress or social commitments back home.

Wanting reassurance, she eventually confronted him directly.

‘She’s like, “Hey, just want to make sure that you’re still excited for me to come. I feel like you’ve been a little bit distant”,’ Kat recalled.

‘He’s like, “No, absolutely. I’m so excited for you to come. I can’t wait for you to be here”.’

But just three days later, that reassurance was shattered as she revealed the man called her friend in the middle of the night, waking her from her sleep, only to deliver news that left her stunned.

‘He said “Basically, I started seeing this girl a few weeks ago and things are starting to get serious, and I don’t want you to come to Australia any ”,’ he told her.

‘This f*ing a**h*** literally lied to her face three days ago and has been leading her on for weeks,’ she said.

After Kat sent the man an angry message calling him a ‘coward,’ she said he ignored her completely, but sent her friend a response that many viewers labelled cold and dismissive.

‘I’m sorry that you feel that way,’ he wrote, adding that he ‘didn’t realise how much emotional investment’ she had put into the situation, or ‘how much time and effort and money’ she’d spent.

‘You didn’t know that she spent $1,700 ($A2,550) on a flight? You didn’t know that she was staying up till midnight to talk to you every night?’ she said.

To add insult to injury, Kat claimed the man admitted the new woman had only been in his life for a week – despite maintaining a two-and-a-half-month emotional connection with her friend.

Even worse, she said, he laughed throughout the conversation, before attempting to lighten the mood with a joke.

The story has struck a nerve online, with thousands of viewers weighing in, including Australians who admitted the moment Kat mentioned an ‘Aussie man,’ they braced themselves.

‘As an Australian woman, as soon as you said ‘Aussie man’ I sighed,’ one wrote.
