Alexis Mac Allister‘s chances of starting against Man United may have lessened, with Argentina’s international fixture moved to a different US state and day.

Mac Allister has struggled with his fitness since the backend of last season and it has compromised his start to the 2025/26 campaign.

He has joined up with the Argentina squad for the October break for two friendlies against Venezuela and Puerto Rico, though it is the latter that has changed his starting chances against United.

The friendly was originally scheduled to be played in Chicago on Monday, or the early hours of Tuesday for those in the UK, affording him five days before the Premier League‘s return.

But according to sources including the Associated Press and the Athleticit has now moved a day later and will be played in Miami, Florida – though it has yet to be officially announced.

This will mean Mac Allister, whether he is involved or not, will not arrive back on Merseyside until late on Wednesday, with a return to full training anticipated on Thursday.

It is a familiar schedule for those playing for South American countries, but it will likely have a knock-on effect on Mac Allister’s chances of starting against United as Arne Slot will not take any risks.

There is a four-day gap between Argentina’s match and United’s visit, but the added factor of travel will place a big question mark on his chances in the XI, especially as Curtis Jones was not called up for England.

A wider consideration is that the visit of Ruben Amorim’s side starts a run of seven games in 22 days, and Slot will know Mac Allister will still need to be managed throughout.

Mac Allister has yet to complete a full 90 minutes this season and has not done so for Liverpool since the trip to Leicester on April 20.

It is reported that the fixture has been moved due to low ticket sales and the unrest in Chicago amid the deplorable immigration stance of the President.

The Trump administration has authorised the deployment of the National Guard to put a stop to protests, with more than 1,000 people arrested since the immigration crackdown started last month in the Chicago area.

A lawsuit has been filed by the state of Illinois and the city of Chicago to block the National Guard from being deployed as tension rises across the political landscape.

Instead of a kickoff on October 13 in Chicago, the match will instead take place at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami on October 14 (US time).
