As the international break rumbles on, the agent of Lyon attacker Malick Fofana has been in the news claiming his client “belongs” at a club like Liverpool.

Malick Fofana “belongs” at club like Liverpool

Fofana was linked with Liverpool in the summer and has since confirmed there was transfer interest, but he ultimately didn’t leave Lyon.

It is clear, though, the 20-year-old Belgian left-winger still has ambitions of moving on in the future.

“Fofana feels very valued in Lyon. He didn’t want to risk that,” his agent, Frederico Pena told Belgian newspaper The Morning.

“This is the season Fofana wants to show himself to the world, especially at the World Cup.

“If he succeeds, he can go from Lyon to a top 10 club. We strongly believe in him at Roc Nation (agency). Liverpool, Bayern, Man City – those are the clubs he belongs at.”

As mentioned, Fofana was linked to a move away having impressed in Ligue 1, but he spoke about why he stayed in France over the summer.

“I’ve considered a transfer, but now I think it’s more important that I play a lot and that has to happen at Lyon because I still have some progress to make,” Fofana explained to The Importance of Limburg.

Lyon were seeking just over £43 million for the youngster, but the Reds didn’t pursue a deal.

The Times‘ Paul Joyce reported that Liverpool would rather create a pathway for Ngumoha River than sign Bradley Barcola or Fofana.

Liverpool FC: On this day

Happy Birthday to Xher who turns 34 years old on October 10.

The former Red was born in Gjilan, then part of Yugoslavia but now Kosovo, and moved to Switzerland before his first birthday.

He signed for Liverpool in the summer of 2018 and while he wasn’t a permanent fixture in the team, he always made an impact when called upon.

Perhaps an underrated member of Jurgen Klopp‘s Champions League-winning squad, he started 25 games and came off the bench 38 times during his three years at the club.

He is actually still playing, too! This season, he has already scored seven goals and provided five assists for Basel.
