At only 16 years old, Naomi Watts and Liev Schreiber’s transgender daughter, Kai Schreiber, has certainly accomplished a lot.

She landed a role in the wildly popular Disney live-action remake of The Jungle Book, posed on the cover of a huge magazine and has starred in a Valentino campaign.

Most recently, the teenager stomped the runway at New York, Paris, and Milan Fashion Week – certainly an impressive feat for someone her age.

But Shreiber has been adamant about the fact that his daughter did not get to where she is because of her famous parents, fiercely clapping back at Nepo baby haters after she made her runway debut earlier this year.

Even so, there’s no denying that hailing from two of the most successful actors on the planet has come with a slew of benefits.

As she continues to make waves in the fashion industry, FEMAIL has taken a look inside Kai’s very glamorous life.

A childhood rocked by her parents’ split: Schreiber and Watts went through a very public breakup when Kai was only eight years old

Schreiber and Watts started dating in 2005, and together, they welcomed son Alexander ‘Sasha’ in 2007 and transgender daughter Kai in 2008.

The family lived in a sprawling, 6,000sq ft mansion in the Hamptons, which boasted five bedrooms and seven bathrooms.

In 2016, they moved into a $5.4 million beachside abode. While smaller – it had only four bedrooms and stretched across 3,600sq ft – the home had a slew of lavish amenities including a heated gunite pool, chef’s kitchen, and stunning views of the ocean.

But just months after moving into the new house, the couple announced their split after 11 years together.

The two stars shared joint custody of the kids after that, with the youngsters splitting their time between the Hamptons with Watts and New York City with Schreiber.

The breakup seemed amicable, and the exes have been extremely open about how their priority has and always will be co-parenting their two kids.

‘We’re parents together so we’ll be together for the rest of our lives no matter what,’ Schreiber told CBS This Morning after their relationship ended in 2016. ‘We’re very close. Hopefully, that never changes and I don’t think it will.’

The Caught Steeling star reiterated that during an appearance on the Today show in 2018.

‘It’s always hard, you know? You build a life with someone and things change,’ he said.

‘I think the way that we’ve looked at it is that we’ll always be partners with these kids. It’s important to support each other.

‘I was making some jokes at breakfast about mommy with the boys and their eyes light up when I talk about her. You can see how important it is to them that their parents care about each other.’

Watts also told Net-a-Porter in 2019, ‘I’m pretty proud of us, corny as that may sound.

‘We’ve made it our absolute priority to be good and kind to each other and we’re absolutely committed to that.’

Coming out as transgender: Schreiber said it wasn’t a ‘big deal’ when Kai asked to change her pronouns since she had ‘been feminine for so long’

According to her father, Kai ‘never actually told him or her mom that she was trans.’

He told Variety that when she asked to change her pronouns it ‘didn’t feel like that big of a deal because she had been feminine for so long.’

‘Kai was always who Kai is,’ he added. ‘Kai is such a fighter. It’s important that she goes, “Hey, I am trans,” and, “Look at me.”‘

The father-daughter duo attended a gala at the Ali Forney Center’s A Place together in March, which ‘provides a home with stability, support, and comprehensive services to help LGBTQ+ homeless youth get their lives back on track.’

‘This isn’t just about representing the trans community,’ Schreiber told the publication ahead of the event.

‘This is actually a community of people who don’t have great resources, who don’t have access to help, who aren’t being protected and looked after by their families.

‘These are people who are being rejected. These are people who are experiencing the harshest version of humanity that we can offer, and some of them are not surviving it.’

Her booming career at only 16 years old: Kai made her acting debut at age eight and has made waves in the fashion world recently

According to Watts, Kai developed an interest in acting after she attended a performance arts summer camp as a child.

Kai made her acting debut in the 2016 live-action remake of The Jungle Book, in which she voiced a young wolf, but has not starred in anything since.

‘It seems (Kai and Sasha have) got the bug,’ she told Net-a-Porter back in 2019, admitting that she had ‘mixed’ feelings about her kids entering the spotlight.

Recently, it seemed her focus has switched from the movie industry to the fashion world.

She attended a slew of runway shows with her mom last year and made her runway debut in March 2025 at age 16 when she walked for Valentino during Paris Fashion Week.

Afterwards, her father clapped back at those who claimed she only appeared in the show because she was a nepo baby.

‘I don’t really have any thoughts for the haters,’ he told TMZ. ‘I’m going to put it to you like this: What if you were a professional actor, and your child decided they wanted to do something in this world? Do they have a choice of what you did?

‘That’s her life. She does what she wants with her life, and I’m super proud of her. I thought she did an amazing job in the show.’

Soon after, she starred in a campaign for Valentino, and was signed to IMG Models. In the months since then she has posed on the cover of Bazaar France and has modeled for V and AnOther Magazine.

In recent weeks she stomped the catwalk at New York, Milan, and Paris Fashion Weeks – walking in a slew of shows for big brands like Max Mara, Valentino, Michael Kors, Calvin Klein, Moschino, Coperni and Fendi.

‘I see myself in the fashion industry. It’s always been my dream,’ she told Interview Magazine recently.

‘I’m not sure if college is for me, but we’ll see when it rolls around. I like to go with the flow.

‘I want to be a supermodel. Period. I’ve been practicing my walks in the kitchen for years; my mom can show you all the videos I forced her to film.

‘Struggling with gender identity from a young age most likely had something to do with it.

‘I always wanted to grow up and be a beautiful, glamorous, influential woman, like Marilyn.’

It appears as though Kai has already found love as she was spotted walking hand-in-hand with a mystery man in New York City this week.

The teenager couldn’t hold back her smile as she stepped out with her unidentified companion, who looked equally as smitten.

For their casual outing, the high schooler wore a black-and-white striped mini dress paired with classic Converse sneakers.

Her mystery man opted for some gray shorts, a T-shirt over a long-sleeved shirt, a pink ‘I heart New York’ hat, and sneakers.

Despite the seemingly affectionate display, it is unknown if the pair’s relationship is romantic or platonic.
