Al-Ahly had decided to appoint Imad Al-Nahhas for the second time as interim coach after the dismissal of Spaniard Jose Ribeiro last August 31 following the loss to Pyramids in the Egyptian League.

After taking over the job, Al-Nahhas led Al-Ahly from thirteenth place to the top of the league table with the same points tally as Al-Masry and Zamalek after achieving a draw and then four consecutive victories.

Al-Zawraa Club stated in an official statement, saying: “The administrative body of Al-Zawraa Club announced its contract with Egyptian coach Imad Al-Nahhas to lead the first football team.

The club’s management indicated that this contract came after careful study and follow-up by the Board of Directors with the aim of choosing the most appropriate name to lead the Iraqi football leader in the next important stage at the local and Asian levels.

He added: “The club’s management confirms that Al-Nahhas is one of the prominent coaching names in Egyptian and Arab football, as he has distinguished experience in the field of training, which made him the ideal choice to lead an ancient and historical team like Al-Zawraa Club.”

He continued: “It is hoped that Egyptian coach Imad Al-Nahhas will arrive in the capital, Baghdad, within the next two days, coming from the Egyptian Al-Ahly team, which he supervised during the current season and achieved distinguished results with him.”

Al-Nahhas became the second Egyptian coach to take over the task of coaching the Iraqi Al-Zawraa team, as he was preceded by his compatriot Hossam Al-Badri, who led Al-Zawraa 3 seasons ago, but he resigned from his mission to be succeeded by the Iraqi Issam Hamad.
