An eagle-eyed Coles shopper noticed that a popular biscuit no longer appears to be available in-store.

An Australian man recently expressed his concern after being unable to locate packs of the Coles Ultimate 40% Chocolate Chip Cookies Chocolate Dipped variety.

After recently trying to make his ‘weekly purchase’ of the beloved sweet treat, he noticed that the spot where the packs normally reside in the biscuit aisle was ’empty’.

After seeking the assistance of a store worker to help him locate the product, he said the supermarket employee informed him that ‘they were discontinued’.

‘Are they gone forever?’ he asked in a discussion-provoking post shared to an online forum.

‘Can someone direct me to cookies anonymous? Is there any hope for my first world problem?’ the man playfully added.

Daily Mail reached out to a Coles Australia spokesperson for comment.

Other Aussie fans of the own-brand chocolate chip biscuits, which features a firm chocolate coating on the underside, were equally stunned by the sudden discontinuation of the popular product.

One woman who had already made the discovery on a recent shopping trip said it had caused uproar in her household.

‘My husband is super p****d about this exact thing,’ she admitted.

Another Coles customer had the realisation while doing her shopping online.

‘My heart sank when I saw they were ‘currently unavailable’ on the app. Why, God damn it, WHY?’

Others were only just learning the disappointing news for the first time while reading the man’s Reddit post.

‘This is why I couldn’t find them!! Noooo!’ read one reply.

Another poetic response read: ‘I can’t believe the last one I ate was the last one ever. The ultimate Ultimate biscuit.’

‘They were so addictive,’ lamented another biscuit lover.

‘Oh no these were an epic sweet treat postpartum,’ one recently pregnant woman wrote. ‘My husband is gonna be devastated.’

‘They got discontinued? Dammit. Time to find a replacement.’

However, a number of responses noted that the gluten free version of the exact same biscuit appeared to still be available – at least for the time being.

The Coles Ultimate Gluten Free Dipped Cookies 40% Chocolate Chip Cookies are still listed as available on the retailer’s online store and are currently priced at $7.70 for a packet.

‘The gluten free version is just as good (trust me),’ read one response.

Another parent agreed that their child ‘loves’ the gluten free version, praising it as ‘one of the best GF biscuits I’ve ever tasted’.

‘I’ll be devastated if they’re (ever) discontinued. It’s difficult enough to find good packaged GF snacks,’ they added.

Although there was disappointment over the reported discontinuation of the original chocolate coated biscuit, many felt reassured that other items in the Coles Ultimate range remained available.

A biscuit-lover – who ‘never knew’ of the chocolate-dipped version’s existence – said they were a big fan of the regular Coles Ultimate Cookies 40% Chocolate Chip, which are currently sold at $6 per pack.

Another woman commented that she wouldn’t ‘handle’ it if the ‘normal Ultimates (were) gone as well’.

Other current items in the Ultimate biscuit range are the Coles Ultimate 40% Triple Chocolate Chip Cookie $6 as well as gluten-free options of Coles Ultimate Gluten Free Cookies 40% Chocolate Chip $7.20 and Coles Ultimate Gluten Free 40% Triple Chocolate Chips $7.20.

However, several Aldi shoppers insisted that those who loved the original version of the Coles chocolate chip biscuits should also try the equivalent stocked at the budget supermarket chain.

At Aldi, the Belmont Biscuit Co. Signature 40% Chocolate Chip Cookies, are priced at $4.99 per packet.

‘The Aldi version is excellent,’ insisted one reply.

A Tasmanian resident – who is only able to visit an Aldi store when travelling to the mainland – explained that whenever they have ‘flown to Melbourne’ they ‘always bring at least 10 (packs) of these back from Aldi’.
