The Atom’s journey on board a nuclear icebreaker was an initiative in which Atom Flot, operator of Rosatom’s icebreaker fleet, cooperates with KAMA, the developer of this vehicle.

The car’s battery, heating and cooling systems are designed to operate reliably in a variety of extreme weather conditions, including the Arctic cold.

Although designed primarily for the urban environment, the Atom demonstrates exceptional reliability and adaptability, qualities that may expand the horizons of electric mobility in diverse climates.

In this context, Igor Povarazdnok, CEO of the car manufacturer, said: “Atom is the first electric car developed locally in Russia, designed by local engineers to suit Russian conditions. The journey of this car on board a Russian nuclear icebreaker has great connotations – seeing the prototype of the car traveling on board a national icebreaker is one of our country’s achievements that we are proud of. Our focus now is on improving the car and flying it to suit our country’s harsh climate, and developing its digital systems based on our national standards.”

He added: “This is not just an ordinary electric car, but rather a technological leap. It is built on a special platform that combines high maneuverability and excellent driving capabilities, as it has a turning radius equivalent to 4.9 meters, and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 8 seconds. With adaptation to Russian conditions, the car’s battery is sufficient for it to travel 500 km on a single charge, and it has obtained super-fast charging technologies, as it can be charged for 8 minutes.” The car is capable of covering 100 km, and its smart systems such as ADAS 2 and augmented reality technologies on the windshield, and its comfortable interior design and equipment make it an ideal vehicle for transportation within cities.
