Bowen Yang and Bronwyn James are here to remind everyone that magic can happen right at home — with the help of your self-care routine.
The Wicked stars have teamed up with Olay Body and Secret for a new line of body washes and deodorants inspired by the upcoming sequel, Wicked: For Goodand say that getting back into their characters, Pfannee and ShenShen, for the campaign was a dream come true.
“Anytime I get to throw on a Wicked dress and prance around is a good time, so I’m always gonna take the opportunity,” James, 31, tells PEOPLE about the collaboration. Yang, 34, adds, “They nailed it with the costumes and with the set design. They got in pieces from the archive, and it was just really powerful to get back into those fatigues.”
With the campaign celebrating the magic within all of us, Bowen emphasizes the power of body care as a confidence ritual. “I feel like it’s this daily exercise—like RuPaul calls it, shaving off the tail every day,” the Saturday Night Live star says. “Everything in the world is kind of meant to erode your confidence, and it’s up to you to step out the door and feel like everything is as you want it to be. It’s like maintenance of the soul. I never take that step for granted. So something like deodorant or body wash is quite pertinent to that.”
The collection features two scents: the Glinda-inspired Couldn’t Be Lovelierwith notes of “raspberry and effervescent bubbles,” and the Elphaba-based Wickedly Wonderfulcombining “warm cashmere and zesty lime.” Both stars say at different times in their lives, they’ve related to both vibes.
“I think I was definitely a bit of an Elphaba when I was younger,” James shares. “But as you grow up, you become a mixture of the two—sticking to your guns and doing what you think is right, but also leading with kindness and love.”
Yang agrees: “I think everyone is kind of a mix of all the characters… The story of the films is about finding a sense of yourself despite what the world tells you, despite how you present yourself. I think there’s some interiority in that journey for everybody. When I was younger, I felt more like an Elphaba aspiring to be Glinda. Then I kind of tipped the scale to Glinda. Now, I think I’ve rebalanced—I’m a little bit of both.”

Of course, their self-care routines were essential during filming. “Both of us were commuting from our ‘bases’ — Bronwyn was taking a bus five hours each way, I was flying back and forth — and I feel like that necessitates some kind of ritual,” Yang tells PEOPLE. “That’s what Olay and Secret sort of do. It is a ritual to put on your products every day and to arm yourself against the slings and arrows of the world. That was something we both had to learn on our own.”

As their stars rise and their roles in Wicked grow, their understanding of self-care has evolved, too. “Care for me has become more of an internal thing,” Yang says. James agrees: “I think having a little bit of light on me from being in something like Wicked made me appreciate both sides. Bubble baths and scented candles and face masks are obviously wonderful. But I think it goes even deeper. Self-care is checking in with myself to make sure I’m staying good and true to who I am.”
