Samsung’s XR Headset Finally Launching On October 21

uaetodaynews.com — Samsung’s XR headset finally launching on October 21
After months of leaks, teasers, and shifting timelinesSamsung has finally set a date for its long-awaited XR headset, codenamed Project Moohan. The company just confirmed that the mixed reality device will be unveiled during its “Worlds Wide Open” Galaxy Event on October 21 at 10 PM ET, streamed live on YouTube. The wait’s finally over.
The launch was previously rumored for late September but got quietly pushed back, fueling speculation that Samsung wanted to fine-tune both the hardware and its marketing pitch.
The Project Moohan headset runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 chip, built to handle everything from VR to AR with fluid motion and minimal latency. It runs Android XR, a new platform developed with Google that leans heavily on multimodal AI for hand- and eye-tracking, gesture control, and likely integrates Google AI.
On the visual side, leaks point to dual micro-OLED panels with a crisp 3,552 × 3,840 resolution. For context, the panels on the Apple Vision Pro have a resolution of 3660 x 3200 pixels.
Samsung isn’t framing Project Moohan as just another headset—it’s pitching it as the next step for Android in spatial computing. Think productivity tools, Play Store apps reimagined in 3D, and immersive media experiences that rival what Apple’s $3,499 AR/VR headset offers. Analysts expect this could give the entire XR market a boost, with shipments projected to jump by nearly 40% next year.
Hands-on demos from earlier this year revealed how it looks and functionsthough final specs like field of view or battery life are still under wraps. If all goes to plan, the headset should start shipping before the end of the year.
October 21 could mark a turning point for Samsung’s XR ambitions—and perhaps Android’s biggest move yet into mixed reality. Whether Project Moohan can live up to the hype, though, we’ll know soon enough.
