uaetodaynews.com — Ryan Gravenberch missing with ankle injury but another midfielder returns – Liverpool FC
Ryan Gravenberch was not part of Liverpool training ahead of their flight to Germany on Tuesday, with the midfielder set to miss the clash with Eintracht Frankfurt.
Gravenberch was forced off in the second half of Sunday’s 2-1 defeat to Man Unitedwith Arne Slot revealing after the game that he had suffered an ankle injury.
He was considered a doubt for the trip to Frankfurt and his absence was confirmed in Liverpool’s open training session on Tuesday.
It is therefore almost certain Gravenberch will not be among the players travelling to Germany, with the club expected to name their squad shortly.
Wataru Endo was a welcome presence at the AXA Training Centre however, having missed Japan duty in the October break as well as the defeat to Man United due to a hamstring issue.
Liverpool’s outfield squad training for Frankfurt
Defenders: Van Dijk, Conate, Book, Bradley, Frimpong, Robertson.
Midfielders: Szoboszlai, Mac Allister, Wirtz, Jones, Endo, Nyoni
Forwards: Salah, Isaac, the iron balm, Ekiisa, chiesa, ningmohaha,
The 32-year-old is unlikely to start against Frankfurt but will be a useful option particularly in light of Gravenberch’s injury.
There are no other new absentees with 19 outfield players put through their paces on a grey October day in Kirkby.
Young midfielder Trey Nyoni was among those to train but it remains to be seen if he will join the first team for the Champions League or instead captain the U19s in their UEFA Youth League clash with Frankfurt on Wednesday afternoon.
Nyoni has started for the U19s in both of their games so far but Gravenberch’s setback could see him called into the senior squad.
Slot is likely to rotate after naming an unchanged side for the loss to Man Unitedwith Curtis Jones and Florian Wirtz expected to come into midfield.
That could come at the expense of Alexis Mac Allister who may drop out along with the injured Gravenberch, with the Argentine not only short of form at present but having required four stitches to his head at the weekend.
Mac Allister remains available, however, and will be part of the squad to face Frankfurt.
The likes of Andy Robertson, Jeremie Frimpong, Hugo Ekitike and Federico Chiesa can also be hopeful of a starting spot for the 8pm kickoff at Deutsche Bank Park.
