uaetodaynews.com — I’m a professional house cleaner and there are five common items I would NEVER have in my home: ‘The absolute worst’

A professional cleaner has detailed the interior fixtures and homewares she’d never keep at home – simply because they’re far too hard to clean.

Jade, who runs her own cleaning business, named and shamed five common pieces – ranging from venetian blinds to ‘any type of mirrored furniture‘.

Her first surprising no-go was a statement light fixture.

Jade, who owns JM Cleaning Services in the UK, explained in a TikTok video that while chandelier-style light fittings might look fantastic, they are near-impossible to maintain.

‘These are stunning, but have you ever tried to remove the cobwebs and dust off one of these?’ she said.

Aluminium venetian blinds are also banned from Jade’s household.

These popular and cost-effective window coverings are a staple in many homes, conveniently allowing light in while protecting privacy.

Jade, however, cannot stand them.

‘I hate all blinds. But these are the absolute worst. They break, bend out of shape and they just take forever to clean,’ she said.

Jade also slammed any and all mirrored furniture – for obvious reasons.

Frequently seen on chests of drawers, bedside tables, sideboards and coffee tables, many opt for mirrored furniture because it creates the illusion of more space within a room.

But keeping these pieces spotless is nightmarish according to Jade, thanks to the build-up of finger prints, dust and grime.

‘Just awful to try and keep all shiny,’ she said.

Jade sarcastically added that owning mirrored furniture condemned you to endlessly ‘clean it, then clean it again and then repeat every minute of your life’.

The final two items that earned Jade’s ire were bacteria-traps found in the bathroom.

The first? Toilet mats.

‘I genuinely think these are so unhygienic,’ she said alongside a ‘vomit’ Emoji.

She also called out silicone toilet brushes for not being thorough enough to achieve adequate cleaning.

She suggested a bristle toilet brush instead.

Jade’s post was viewed over 4.5 million times and attracted over 2000 comments – many in agreement with her points.

Other professional cleaners were particularly sympathetic to Jade’s cleaning gripes.

‘As a professional housekeeper myself, I was like, “I bet I disagree with at least one of these”. But no. WHOLEHEARTEDLY AGREE,’ read one reply.

‘Becoming a cleaner made me realise what I don’t want in my home,’ read another. ‘I always look at things now and think how hard/easy would it be to clean.’

One cleaner said Jade’s point about mirrored furniture was all too real.

‘I had to clean a house where the primary bedroom was FULL of mirrored furniture and they had little kids. I cried every time I cleaned there,’ she said.

But it was the last two bathroom-related homewares items that dominated the online comments discussion.

‘Just the idea of toilet mats are disgusting. Not sure what purpose they’re supposed to serve,’ read one reply, echoing a common sentiment.

‘Those toilet brushes can go to hell,’ another said of the silicone cleaning brush.
