Dad Spots Grim Detail In Popular Brisbane Playground: ‘How Has Nobody Noticed This Before?’

uaetodaynews.com — Dad spots grim detail in popular Brisbane playground: ‘How has nobody noticed this before?’

A Brisbane dad was struck by an unnerving detail while taking his children to play at a suburban park.

‘There’s something weird about this playground. It’s Bert Hinkler Park in Windsor… and remember that name cause we’ll need it in a second,’ Zach Mander said in a video.

Upon first glance, it looked like an ordinary Australian children’s playground complete with slides and climbing areas. But a notable difference was the distinct plane feature hanging off the side of the top tower.

The former KIIS FM radio host went on to explain why a few peculiar aspects about the plane caught his attention.

‘While I was here with my kids, I noticed the plane was facing down at a 45 degree angle and the wings were covered in flames,’ he said.

The fiery plane crash design prompted Zach to do a quick online search about the person the park was named after, which quickly revealed a grim detail.

‘I looked up Bert Hinkler and I found he was a famous aviator – who DIED IN A PLANE CRASH,’ exclaimed Zach.

‘And this is the tribute playground they made for him?’

Bert Hinkler Park in Brisbane looks like any ordinary suburban Australian children’s playground. But a notable difference is the distinct plane feature hanging off the right side of the top tower

Aussie dad Zach Mander recently took his children to Brisbane’s Bert Hinkler Park. There, he noticed a strange design detail in the playground equipment

The incredulous observation, shared in a reel to his @zachmander account, saw the media personality muse whether the memorial tribute park was perhaps in poor taste.

‘It’s like making a playground of the Titanic hitting an iceberg,’ he said.

‘Am I missing something or has Brisbane done Bert dirty?’ he concluded the video, which has amassed over 230,000 views.

Aussies were quick to chime in on the morbid park design, many claiming it was ‘classic Australia’.

‘This is just peak Australia,’ confirmed one reply.

‘Only Aussies wouldn’t be offended,’ added another.

One person even light-heartedly offered: ‘See, the councils do have a sense of humour.’

A fellow parent said they were certain kids would ‘love playing disaster scenarios with that thing’.

In a video shared to his @zachmander Instagram account, Zach was struck by the way the plane was designed and positioned to appear as though it were mid-crash

The plane shaped play equipment also depicted fiery flames on the wings. The playground is located in a memorial park named in tribute to an Australian aviation hero who died in a plane crash

‘Proud of our historically accurate playgrounds,’ read another tongue-in-cheek reply.

Herbert John Louis Hinkler AFC DSM – better known as Bert Hinkler – was a pioneering Australian aviator and inventor who built an early aircraft before later becoming the first person to fly solo from England to Australia and the first to fly solo across the Southern Atlantic Ocean.

He died in 1932 at the age of 39 during a solo flight record attempt, crashing in a remote countryside area near Tuscany, Italy.

The plane disaster-themed playground equipment located within the memorial park sparked several Aussies to note that it’s not the first time a local icon who died in tragic circumstances has been the recipient of a questionable tribute.

‘I mean, we are the country that decided to name a pool after a prime minister who drowned,’ one wrote.

What that comment references is the eyebrow-raising existence of the Harold Holt Swim Centre in Victoria, named after the 1960s Australian PM who is understood to have died by accidentally drowning.

‘Given the Harold Holt swimming pools this playground is so on brand for Australia,’ observed one.

‘Death does not excuse you from having the p*** taken,’ read another laconic reply.

Bert Hinkler hailed from Bundaberg in Queensland, where the local airport is now named after him. He died in a plane crash in 1932 during a solo flight record attempt

Hinkler Park in Katoomba NSW is also named in honour of the Australian aviation icon. It also features plane-shaped play equipment – but not a crash scene

Locals from Bundaberg Queensland – which is the town where flight hero Bert grew up – said that they also found it ironic that their local airport was named after him.

And it appears Australians aren’t alone in naming airports after well-known plane crash victims.

A Portugal resident confirmed in the video comments that the Francisco de Sá Carneiro Airport was named after a Prime Minister who died in a plane crash.

Meanwhile, an Oklahoma City resident explained that – not one – but two of their airports are ‘named after two different people who died in the same 1980s plane crash’. They are the Will Rogers International Airport and Wiley Post Airport.

Meanwhile the Blue Mountains NSW is also home to a notable park named after the Australian aviator – and it too has a distinct plane feature within its playground.

Hinkler Park in Katoomba is a popular play area renowned for its oversized metal plane-shaped climbing frame. But unlike its Brisbane playground counterpart, this one does not depict a crash scene.

Another detail in Zach’s recent viral video grabbed viewers’ attention; his comparison of the Bert Hinkler Park playground to the idea of a Titanic themed playground.

To this point, some commenters disagreed, arguing that ‘a playground in the form of the Titanic after the iceberg hit would be totally awesome.’

‘(S)ounds like an awesome climbing wall into a slide scenario,’ said one person.
