Gen Z Has Declared A Pricey New Trend For Christmas This Year… But Not Everyone’s Convinced

uaetodaynews.com — Gen Z has declared a pricey new trend for Christmas this year… but not everyone’s convinced
A new Christmas trend has gone viral on TiKTokleaving social media users completely divided.
Dubbed ‘Ralph Lauren Christmas,’ the popular craze puts red, green, plaid and velvet ribbons at the heart of the festive aesthetic, much like the designer brand’s signature New England look.
The phrase has already gained millions of views on TikTok, and hoards of people on the app are posting videos highlighting trees with bows and plaid-wrapped presents.
However, some social media users aren’t here for the new trend and have been rubbishing the hype.
TikTok user Minty Scott, who posts under the username as @_pinkmintchocolate, criticized the trend in a video posted on her profile.
Explaining what it entails, she said: ‘A Ralph Lauren Christmas is literally the most basic, textbook definition of what Christmas decorations look like.’
Scott then blasted: ‘You can’t trend Christmas ya’ll. I think we’ve had enough Christmases to realize it’s not a trend, OK? It’s been around.
‘This is so stupid. It’s just Christmas. It’s literally the most basic example of Christmas.’

In an interview with Newsweekshe added: ‘Personally, I think the Ralph Lauren Christmas aesthetic is just another grab at people wanting to be seen and belong on the internet.
‘I actually started laughing to myself because I was thinking there’s no way people are trying to make a trend of what already exists – it’s just, Christmas!’
Social media users were equally dumbfounded and they hit out at influencers for trying to repackage Christmas.
One commented: ‘Plaid and velvet for Christmas… Groundbreaking.’
Another said: ‘It’s just traditional style but people are not thinking in styles anymore they think in brand names. The psychological impact of capitalism in crazy.’
‘Guess I’ve been doing Ralph Lauren Christmas my whole life,’ added a third.
Echoing a similar sentiment, a fourth continued: ‘No for real, I’m sick of all these influencers acting like it’s a new concept for exactly what you said, it’s a traditional Christmas.
‘Ralph Lauren Christmas is just Christmas before capitalism took it over to the point of no return.
The trend has been slammed by some, however, for being the textbook definition of what Christmas decor already looks like (stock image)
‘It’s the Christmas you had as a kid, with the decorations your parents had as hand me downs from their parents that have been reused every year because there weren’t 500 vlogs and TikToks posting about the new holiday trend you can find at TJ Maxx.
‘I’ve seen so many people who completely change their decorations every single year to a theme, like how are you affording this and how are you possibly justifying throwing away entire fiber optic trees every year so you can get a new color next year?’
A fifth joked: ‘I’ve been doing Ralph Lauren Christmas for decades. Ahead of the trend.’
Christmas preparations are well and truly underway.
Earlier this week, Meghan Markle launched her first Christmas collection with As Ever – including a $64 candle paying tribute to her wedding to Prince Harry.
The Duchess of Sussex, 44, unveiled the range in a clip showing the mother-of-two decking the halls in an olive green dress, making desserts with her fruit preserves and glazing a turkey with one of her honeys.
Meghan’s festive collection includes new products, such as two candles inspired by her wedding date and her August 4 birthday and a 2021 Vintage Napa Valley Brut, costing $89.
Signature Candle No. 519, scented with Moroccan mint, cardamom, and tea leaves apparently ‘evokes the freshness of a day in the English countryside’, according to a gushing description on her website.
It’s said to capture ‘cherished memories’ of the ‘ease and joy’ of Meghan’s wedding day on May 19, 2018, with no mention of rows over bridesmaids’ dresses or the last-minute drama of her father not attending.
Fans wishing to make their home smell just like the Sussexes’ Montecito mansion can also splash out on the Signature Candle No. 084, which is named after Meghan’s August 4 birth date.
Scented with water lotus, sandalwood and California poppy, Meghan promises the smell that ‘warms her family home’ will ‘feel like a hug’ – at the cost of $64.
Meanwhile, a 2021 Vintage Napa Valley Brut crafted from pinot noir and chardonnay grapes is a new addition to her range of wines. Costing $89 a bottle, shoppers must purchase more than 12 bottles to avoid a $20 shipping fee.
