The Super Bowl Snacks Americans Order Most, According To Instacart

  • Instacart’s new report reveals striking regional differences in Super Bowl snacking habits, highlighting the most popular dips and party foods by state.
  • Ranch dressing is the most popular dip nationwide, ordered 53% often than any other dip, and is especially popular in West Virginia, Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, and South Dakota.
  • Alcohol orders spike during the Big Game weekend, with Mexican-style lagers, Prosecco, and canned cocktails topping drink lists for easy entertaining.

The most-watched football game of the year is nearly upon us, and this hosting opportunity brings a lineup of dips, apps, and crunchy bites. There are plenty of reasons to tune in to the game, sure — but the cheesy, indulgent snacks are typically a big draw.

Delivery platform Instacart analyzed its shopping data from the biggest weekend in football and found that tortilla chips are the “undisputed MVP” of game day snacking in the United States. The California-based platform analyzed 2024 and 2025 data from the “big game” to identify surging orders (such as tortilla chips) on that weekend, as well as shoppers’ favorite snacks. The findings are compiled in a new report that breaks down some of those findings by state.

Orders of tortilla chips leaped during last year’s Super Bowl weekend, spiking 106% over the yearly average. Not far behind, the salsa category proves a popular pairing with a 96% spike during that weekend. Shoppers are possibly topping those chips with scallions (38% increase), queso (196%), and French Onion Dip (146%).

All together, we’re looking at a well-rounded nacho spread that’s pulled together by one crunchy vehicle, the tortilla chip. Orders of potato chips, a relatively less versatile snack, jumped a modest 32% on Game Day weekend.

Overall, Americans are largely grazing on nostalgic party bites, saucy wings, and homemade recipes — but those favorites largely depend on where you’re tuning in.

Instacart’s 2024–2025 data shows tortilla chips, ranch dressing, salsas, and queso driving the biggest order-share spikes during Super Bowl weekend.

Favorite appetizers vary widely by state

Consistent with Instacart’s previous data reports, the platform shows distinct snacking preferences across regions. Spoiler alert: Many of the top-ordered snacks are scoopable.

Queso is the most popular snack among shoppers in the West and the upper Midwest, while “processed cheese” — perhaps as a base for homemade dips or a nacho topping — is most popular in the South and the Great Plains. Instacart calculated each category’s share of orders during the biggest game day of the year, then used a formula to determine the most popular order in each state.

“Regional food preferences are often rooted in tradition. Buffalo Sauce, for example, is uniquely popular in New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania — which makes sense given its New York origins,” Instacart trends analyst Alex Orellana tells Food & Wine. “From homemade queso to chili cheese dip and beer cheese, processed cheeses make it easy for each region to put their own spin on game day snacking.”

French onion dip is popular among Instacart users in California, while tortilla chips are a Super Bowl staple in the Northeast. Buffalo sauces are the most popular order in Pennsylvania and New York, possibly due to their proximity to Buffalo, the birthplace of Buffalo Wings.

Americans aren’t divided on ranch

One non-negotiable is ranch dressing, according to Instacart. The condiment is ordered 53% often than the next-best dip on Super Bowl weekend, per 2025 data. (That’s French onion dipfor those curious.) Ranch is also 886% likely to be purchased with Buffalo Sauce, according to this report.

Shoppers in West Virginia order this tangy side dish most often, requesting it 81% than the national average. That’s followed by Kentucky (60% ), Ohio (59%), Indiana (58%), and South Dakota (57%).

On the other end of the spectrum, folks in Hawaii, Florida, California, and New Mexico order the least ranch dressing on Super Bowl weekend, compared with the national average.

When Instacart isolated orders for Buffalo Sauce, it found that chicken wings (956%) and frozen chicken wings (740%) are likely to be ordered alongside this tangy staple. Barbecue sauce is also a top contender, suggesting that Americans may offer their guests a variety of wing-dipping options.

Hosts stock plenty of drink options in the fridge

Another key aspect of most game days is the drink lineup. According to Instacart, alcohol orders increased by 10% during Super Bowl weekend compared with the yearly average. Mexican-style lagers such as Corona and Modelo, known for their easy-drinking quality, are the top choice, with their popularity up 14% from 2024 to 2025.

To compile this data, Instacart measured the alcohol categories with the largest share increases from 2024 to 2025 during the Big Game weekend. Researchers noted which categories gained the most popularity among shoppers, along with the percentage increase.

Prosecco wasn’t far behind, gaining an 11% increase in share (perhaps, as a foundation for some themed cocktails). Rounding out the top five are unflavored tequila, light lager, and canned cocktails, the last of which has skyrocketed in recent years as a convenient party alternative to the humble mixed drink.

Alcohol orders increase about 10% during Super Bowl weekend, with Mexican-style lagers, Prosecco, tequila, and canned cocktails showing the biggest gains from 2024 to 2025.
