Coles Brings Back Its Easter Hot Cross Buns On Boxing Day – Leaving Shoppers Divided Christmas Isnt Even Over Yet

Coles has brought back its Easter hot cross buns – just one day after Christmas.

The supermarket giant announced the range will be available on shelves from Boxing Day, with than two million hot cross buns expected to be sold before New Year’s Day.

Despite the controversial move three months before Easter, the buns are out early for a good cause, with 20 cents from every six or nine-pack sold donated to the children’s cancer charity Redkite.

Priced at $4.50 a pack or two packs for $8 in-store or online, the range includes the traditional hot cross buns, as well as chocolate, apple and cinnamon, and mini fruit varieties.  For those seeking a twist on tradition, Coles has revived the iconic Arnott’s Iced VoVo hot cross buns, which reimagine the legendary Aussie biscuit.

The re-launch of hot cross buns has divided shoppers, with one saying: ‘About time, I’ve been waiting since April for them to make a return.

‘HURRY! The sooner we eat them all, the sooner we can get back into Christmas,’ another joked.

‘Bloody hell… Christmas isn’t even over yet,’ one pointed out.

‘I refuse to buy them. Let us enjoy each holiday before we’re being pushed into the next one,’ another ranted.

‘People who get mad about this kind of stuff are so funny. Like, why are you so bitter about life?’ one added, laughing.

It’s that time of year again when Coles brings back Easter hot cross buns, a day after Christmas

Coles General Manager Commercial, Bakery, Dairy & Frozen, Brad Gorman said the early return of hot cross buns was a chance to turn a customer favourite into something far meaningful.

‘Aussies have made hot cross buns a post-Christmas favourite and we’re proud to turn that tradition into meaningful support for families, who need to navigate the reality of childhood cancer,’ he said.

‘For over a decade, Coles’ partnership with Redkite has helped thousands of families find their footing during a cancer diagnosis and it’s something our team is genuinely passionate about.’

Over the past decade, Coles customers and team members have raised than $55 million for Redkite, providing vital support to families navigating childhood cancer – like nine-year-old Dakoda’s.

Dakoda was just days from her fourth birthday when she was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia – a fast-growing blood and bone marrow cancer.

After years of intensive treatment and hospital stays, she’s now in remission and living a normal childhood with ongoing maintenance to keep her healthy.

Dakoda’s mum Michelle said Redkite’s support was invaluable during their most difficult moments, offering financial support, emotional guidance and practical help.

‘As a nurse, I thought I was prepared for anything, but nothing prepares you for your own child’s cancer diagnosis,’ she said.

‘Redkite has been a constant support, letting us focus on Dakoda’s health without worrying about everything else.

‘The impact of cancer is like a full-time job and it’s a huge comfort to know Coles and its customers are supporting families like ours. It means so much and reminds us we aren’t facing this alone.’
