The Aldi Dog Treat Shoppers Keep Mistaking For Human Food Its Happening All The Time

Aldi shoppers have been left red-faced after discovering a frozen dessert they thought was a new vegan treat – only to realise it was actually for dogs.
The supermarket’s ‘Doggy Dessert’ tubs, which come in unusual flavours like carrot and apple or pea, have been spotted in freezer aisles across Australia sitting right next to human ice creams and frozen yoghurts – and it’s causing plenty of confusion.
One amused shopper shared a photo of the product on Redditsaying three Aldi stores in their area had stocked the pet-friendly snacks alongside regular desserts.
‘Three Aldi stores in my area have these dog treats amongst the human food,’ they wrote.
‘At least this one was at the end, but others I’ve seen in between human items. I made a joke to grab them and my partner didn’t even click that it was actually dog food. So go on – who’s actually eaten them and just realised now?’
The post quickly went viral, racking up hundreds of comments from Aussies who admitted they too had done a double take – or worse, accidentally taken a bite.
One shopper confessed they’d tried the frozen dessert after reading the ingredients and deciding it was basically plant-based ice cream.
‘After reading the ingredients and realising it’s essentially a vegan ice cream, I decided to have a spoonful,’ they wrote.

‘It tastes like some sort of apple sorbet. Honestly not bad, but way too sweet to want to feed my dog again.’
Another said they ‘smashed through two’ before noticing the word ‘doggy’ on the label.
‘I started to dry retch and went really hot in the face,’ the shopper admitted.
Even some former Aldi staff joined the conversation, confirming that it’s a common mix-up.
‘No joke, I had a lady scream at me when I worked there because she took one home and ate it. The word “doggy” on the front wasn’t enough of a giveaway, apparently,’ she said.
Many shoppers agreed that placing the dog desserts next to human frozen snacks was asking for trouble.
‘It’s weird – I’ve never seen them, but I buy the frozen yoghurt right above all the time,’ one person commented.
‘It’s a bit strange that they’re kept next to the frozen desserts, but I get why. My dogs loved them, though,’ a second wrote.

Others found the humour in it all.
‘Apparently my dad used to snack on dog biscuits as a kid. He says that’s why he’s barking mad,’ one commenter joked.
The Doggy Dessert tubs – which have become a surprise viral hit – are made from fruit, vegetables and coconut-based ingredients.
While safe for pets, they’re not exactly gourmet for humans.
Still, some shoppers say they’d be easy to mistake for a quirky vegan snack, especially with flavours like carrot and apple that sound straight out of a health café.
‘I haven’t been to Aldi recently, but at first glance, I might not have realised they were for dogs – even though it says “doggy”. It just sounds like a fun name, like Freddo frogs,’ one shopper admitted.
So if you’re browsing the frozen aisle and see an innocent-looking tub of Doggy Dessert, double-check the label before you dig in – or you might end up sharing a snack meant for man’s best friend.
