One Of Australias Top Bucket List Restaurants Announces Shock Closure After Four Years In Sydney Im So Sad

An acclaimed fine dining restaurant, helmed by three-Michelin-star chef Clare Smyth, has announced it will close its doors after four years in business.

Oncore by Clare Smyth at Crown Sydney has been a popular spot for Australia’s fine-dining scene, winning three Good Food Guide hats in a row, with 11 courses costing $395 per person.

But after four ‘incredible’ years, the prestigious restaurant – with its stunning views of Sydney Harbour from level 26 of the Crown – will run its final service on February 28, 2026.

‘Opening Oncore in Sydney has been an incredible journey,’ Clare said in a statement to Daily Mail.

‘I’m deeplyproud of what we’ve achieved and grateful to the team whose talent and dedication brought our vision to life.

‘It’s been a privilege to share our food with Australian diners and be part of Crown Sydney’s world-class offering.’

The team behind Oncore broke the news about the unexpected closure of Oncore on social media, saying: ‘We’re immensely proud of our team’s dedication and the exceptional standard of service they’ve delivered.

‘Being honoured with three Good Food Guide hats consecutively is a testament to them and their remarkable talent.

‘Together with Clare Smyth, we have created a dining experience that sets a benchmark for excellence, and we are delighted to have shared that with so many wonderful guests.

‘We invite you for a final farewell sitting overlooking Sydney Harbour… and reservations are available until February 28.’

After working under Gordon Ramsay for 13 years, Clare became the first and only British female chef to hold three Michelin stars in the UK.

In late 2021, the top chef opened her first international restaurant in Sydney’s Barangaroo, a place she described as her ‘home away from home’.

‘Clare Smyth’s Oncore has made an extraordinary impact at Crown Sydney, setting a benchmark for excellence,’ Crown Sydney CEO Stanford Le said.

‘I extend our heartfelt thanks to Clare and the entire Oncore team for their dedication and passion.’

Loyal customers are ‘heartbroken’ by the news, with one saying: ‘I’m so happy I was able to dine here! Such a beautiful restaurant with food, wine and service to match.’

Many diners reflected on their time at the prestigious dining spot, known as one of Australia’s ‘bucket list’ restaurants.

‘That’s sad news but still wishing Oncore team best of luck moving forward. Am glad to have the opportunity to dine there while was in Sydney,’ one shared.

‘Congratulations on the closing of a chapter to start a new one. This was one of the most exceptional experiences I’ve ever had visiting Sydney,’ another said.

‘Without a doubt the most memorable dining experience,’ one added.

‘Omg… no! This is my favourite restaurant,’ another revealed.

‘Glad we were there to experience the hospitality at Oncore by Claire Smyth. Exceptional cuisine, worth a special journey! Three Michelin stars from me,’ one said.
