Kmart shoppers are planning their January home refresh after the budget retailer unveiled the next must-have furniture buy – a softly-distressed lounge chair tipped to dominate Australian living rooms in 2026.

The Goldie Lounge Chair ($155) is a beige piece that is the perfect ‘goes-with-everything’ hero, thanks to its textured fabric, relaxed silhouette, and ability to slip seamlessly into almost any space – from minimalist apartments to cosy family homes.

The buzz around the chair comes as Kmart prepares to roll out its biggest homewares collection to date, with the February Living range landing in stores and online from January.

Kmart buyer Nicholas Holmes said the retailer is already seeing strong interest.

‘The chair of the season last year was our Chenille Como expandable chair in green, which flew off the shelves and took social media by storm,’ he told the Daily Mail.

‘This year, we’re tipping the Goldie chair to be one of the sellout sensations of the range. Get in quick because this super comfortable and aesthetically pleasing item is sure to be a real crowd pleaser.’

The collection leans heavily into global interior trends, blending neutral foundations with richer hues like deep chocolate, muted green, and serene blue to create spaces that feel layered and timeless.

Kmart’s Merchandise Director Meryn Serong said the new drop reflects a growing appetite for affordable design-led pieces that feel elevated without the luxury price tag.

‘This might be our most exciting homewares collection yet, bringing elevated simplicity, natural textures, and versatile styling to every room,’ she said.

Beyond the Goldie chair, the range introduces modular furniture configurations and compression foam technology, allowing shoppers to customise their spaces easily.

Statement pieces like the new Trove Compressed Sofa spotlight Kmart’s push into smarter, space-conscious design, while curved forms, sculptural silhouettes and mixed materials dominate across furniture and decor.

Interior lovers can also expect a strong showing of marble-look finishes, walnut-style ribbed furniture, velvet seating, and practical yet stylish kitchen and laundry essentials – all designed to help create cohesive homes without blowing the budget.

Several items are already tipped to sell out quickly, including a Mediterranean-inspired dining collection starting at just $3.50, new candle ranges in glass and ceramic vessels, and updated colourways of the viral Nico rechargeable lamp in chrome and chocolate.

Even everyday essentials are getting a glow-up, with a multi-head spin mop promising ‘double the shine’, reversible striped linen quilt cover sets in fresh colourways, and chic bedside tables that mimic high-end stone finishes.

Still, it’s the Goldie Lounge Chair that has captured the most attention.

With Australians already embracing warmer neutrals and tactile textures in their homes, and 2026 shaping up to favour similar tones, Kmart’s latest offering may well become the defining chair of the season.
