  • Häagen-Dazs Chocolate Dark Chocolate Mini Bars may contain undeclared wheat
  • Individuals with wheat allergies or sensitivities could have a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume the snacks

Häagen-Dazs is issuing a voluntary recall after one of its products was linked to a possible allergy hazard.

The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said in a memo on Monday, Nov. 3, that a limited number of Dreyer’s Häagen-Dazs Dark Chocolate Mini Bars may contain undeclared wheat, posing a dangerous risk to those who are allergic.

“Those with an allergy or severe sensitivity to wheat run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products,” the FDA said.

The affected snacks are sold in a six-count package with batch code LLA519501 and a Best By date of Jan. 31, 2027.

Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream tracked the affected products and determined that the ice cream bars were sold at Kroger and Giant Eagle retailers in multiple states.

For Kroger, the recall was issued for 29 states including Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, Ohio, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming.

Indiana, Maryland, Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia were the five states where the Häagen-Dazs Chocolate Dark Chocolate Mini Bars were sold at Giant Eagle locations.

Other Häagen-Dazs brand-name products were not affected, according to the FDA’s press release.

As of Tuesday, Nov. 4, no illnesses had been reported.

“We are recalling this product because it may contain products that contain wheat in packaging that does not reveal the presence of wheat on the label,” Dreyer’s said. “Although our investigation is ongoing, we believe products containing wheat were repacked into the incorrect packaging at the beginning of a production run.”
