Roscosmos Plans To Build A Power Plant On The Moon By 2036

A statement issued by the Foundation said: “In December 2025, Roscosmos signed a government contract with the Russian Lavochkin Foundation to complete the work of establishing a power generation station on the Moon by 2036. This project is considered an important step to establish the scientific station that will operate on the Moon permanently and move from missions that are sent to the Moon once to a long-term lunar exploration program.”

The statement added: “The project to develop the power station on the moon also includes plans to develop new spacecraft, conduct ground and flight tests for these vehicles, and deploy infrastructure on the surface of the moon.”

The Foundation also indicated that the lunar power station project, planned to be implemented between 2025 and 2036, aims to provide long-term energy for lunar rovers and observatories affiliated with the Russian lunar program, as well as the infrastructure facilities of the international scientific lunar station.

Russia and China have announced plans to build a scientific station on the moon in cooperation with several countries, and in 2021, the Russian Foundation “Roscosmos” signed an agreement in this regard with China.

Within the framework of the station project, China is supposed to send Chang’e-6, Chang’e-7, and Chang’e-8 vehicles to the moon, and Russia is supposed to launch several vehicles into lunar orbit and vehicles to explore the lunar surface.
