A vegetarian woman is racked with guilt after eating meat for the first time in several years.

In a post on the online forum Mumsnetthe woman explained that she recently ate meat for the first time in five years. She ate a pepperoni pizza “on a whim” and now regrets her decision.

“I’ve been a vegetarian for five years, and I’ve tried eating meat today,” she wrote. “I feel so guilty, and I doubt I’ll be able to eat meat again.”

The woman said that she didn’t like the taste of the pepperoni and “found it too greasy,” making her feel even worse about her decision to try meat again.

Mumsnet users, who are vegetarian, sympathized in the comment section with the woman and said they’d made the same decision and later regretted it.

“I accidentally ate meat three years after being a vegetarian. It was a ‘vegetable’ spring roll at a buffet,” one person wrote. “… Instantly, I knew it wasn’t a vegetable, though the host swore it was. It was chicken. It tasted very salty, greasy, strong.”

The commenter said that they were a vegetarian “for physical health reasons” and “it wasn’t a lot of meat and so didn’t make me ill,” on a positive note.

A second person said their daughter started eating meat again after 10 years of being a vegetarian and “now eats it regularly, in small amounts, and enjoys it.”

“She also feels better for having added it back into her diet,” they wrote, adding, “We’re all different.”

“I was surprised by how quickly I got over it, I always thought I’d end up crying or something if I accidentally ate meat, but that wasn’t the case,” they added.
