uaetodaynews.com — The Saudi Football Federation decides Renard’s fate

The Saudi national team officially qualified for the 2026 World Cup finals after topping the second group in the Asian qualifiers, which included the teams of Iraq and Indonesia, so that the “Green” team continued its successful journey towards the next World Cup, as Saudi Arabia’s qualification came after being tied in points with the Iraqi team (4 points for each), but the advantage in the number of goals scored gave the lead to the Green team.

Yasser Al-Meshal confirmed that French coach Hervé Renard will continue in his position as technical director of the national team, following the end of the confrontation with Iraq in the second round of the Asian qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.

Al-Meshal said in media statements after the match: “Our goal during the coming period is to develop and continue to support the team at all levels, ensuring the stability of the technical staff and achieving the best results in the upcoming matches.”

Al-Meshal’s statements came to put an end to speculation about the future of coach Renard, as he explained that the latter will continue to lead the Saudi national team during the upcoming Club World Cup, stressing the federation’s confidence in the technical staff led by the French coach.

The Saudi national team succeeded in booking a direct qualification ticket to the 2026 World Cup finals for the third time in a row, and the seventh in Al-Akhdar’s history, after being content with a goalless draw with its guest, the Iraqi national team, in the exciting confrontation that brought them together yesterday, Tuesday, at Al-Enmaa Stadium in Jeddah for the second round of the Asian playoff.
