Taylor Swift‘s engagement ring jeweler may be creating more than just wedding rings in the future.
During an appearance on the Today show on Friday, Oct. 17, fine jewelry designer Kindred Lubeck opened up about the “incredible honor” of crafting Swift’s massive old mine cut diamond ring — while also sharing that she’s open to different kinds of projects.
Today host Willie Geist closed out the interview by asking Lubeck if she designs Super Bowl rings, a nod to Swift’s fiancé, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.
“I would!” Lubeck enthusiastically replied. “I would! Absolutely, yes.”
The jeweler also reflected on Swift, 35, telling radio show Heart Breakfast hosts that she instantly recognized Lubeck’s work when Kelce proposed.
“I had shown him a video, I just thought her stuff was so cool, I had shown him a video like a year and a half ago and he was just paying attention to everything it turns out because when I saw the ring I (gasped) … I was like, ‘I know who made this, I know who made this,’ and also, you listen to me!’” the singer said during the Oct. 3 appearance.
On Today, Lubeck called the moment “surreal.”
“The fact that she recognized my work, that is such an incredible honor,” she said. “She said, ‘I know who made that.’ When I heard her say that, I thought that was the most exciting thing.”
She continued, “This is something that you only dream of happening to you. It’s incredibly surreal. I have a pinch-me moment every day. But it’s just such an honor. I feel so honored.”
Taylor Swift & Travis Kelce
After Swift and Kelce announced their engagement on Aug. 26, Lubeck shared an Instagram video thanking old and new fans alike for their support.
“My name is Kindred Lubeck. I’m 30 years old, I started making jewelry in the summer of 2019. I was 25.” Lubeck began.
“I believe that if someone says you can’t do something, you should prove them 110 percent wrong. I think if one door closes, you should kick the next one down. I think that if you have a dream, you should never, ever quit,” she continued.
She then concluded her message with a sweet nod to Swift and her fans. “For those of you have been with me since day one, thank you so much form the bottom of my heart. And to those of you who are new, I’m enchanted to meet you.”
In an interview with Voyage Jacksonville in September 2024, Lubeck revealed she never planned a career in fine jewelry. As a psychology graduate from Florida State University, she worked at a law firm until she “finally had enough.”
“Out of desperation, I swallowed my pride and asked my dad (goldsmith and founder of Jewels by Lubeck Jay Lubeck) if he would be willing to give me part time work until I found another job,” she explained. “I was 24 years old at the time.”
She joined the family company in October 2019 and practiced the craft behind the scenes when they were forced to shut down their showroom during the COVID-19 pandemic. She also took classes on engraving, which have since become a hallmark of her designs.
In 2023, Lubeck started Artifex Fine Jewelry online, where rings sell upwards of $38,300 and expanded her business with a studio in New York City in June 2024.
