The research was conducted in cooperation between University of Tehran Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences and the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the Islamic Azad University in the city of Karaj, where the effect of limbus tissue with a slice of conjunctiva and a bovine amniotic membrane on Corneal wounds Resulting from alkaline burns. The study included 25 rabbits, and showed that the use of amniotic membrane alone or in combination with limbus tissue resulted in a significant improvement in cellular repair, reduced keratinocyte loss, and increased vascularity in the affected area.

He explained that this method can be easily applied in veterinary clinics, and has great potential for future development for use in treating corneal injuries in humans after conducting broader studies.

The research supervisor indicated that the initial results are promising, and open the way for adopting this technique as a safe and effective treatment option for corneal restoration and preservation of sight at a low cost and simple procedures.
