I’m 76, Well-travelled And Only Attract Younger Men. I Don’t Think David’s Left Cheshire: They Kissed And Laughed Together At A ‘larger Lady’ Enjoying A Solo Lunch… But Read Brutal Reason Regine Rejected Her Blind Date

Every week, Femail asks two singleton to report back from their blind date.

This week, it was Regine and David’s turn to see if they were a match.

Here’s what happened…

Regine, 76

Dating Past?

I was married for 29 years. When I was younger I always preferred older men and now I attract and date younger chaps. The last one I saw was 56. The secret is, while I dress appropriately for my age, I don’t act it. I’ve got a sort of boyfriend (he’s 57) in Spainbut it’s a long way to go for a night out.

Pre-Date Nerves?

I was comfortably nervous. But I like to talk – I speak fluent French with a sexy accent apparently.

First Impressions?

David was already at our table and – like the perfect gent – stood up to greet me. He shook my hand which is just as it should be. He has an attractive full head of silver hair.

Easy To Talk To?

Yes. David told me of his passion for dancing. I don’t dance because I don’t have a partner but that doesn’t put him off. We talked about his wife who passed away when he was only 49, meaning he has been both mum and dad to their daughters. He’s obviously very family-oriented.

We didn’t have many shared life experiences: I’m welltravelled and have lived everywhere from Italy to Vietnam. Whereas I’m not sure David has left Cheshire.

He doesn’t drink so I joked I’d drink for both of us – and I did! – having two lovely glasses of sauvignon blanc while David stuck to fizzy water.

VITAL STATISTICS

Widowed, no children.

Current Role

Retired but still work as a house and pet sitter.

Would like to meet

A smart dresser, capable of conversation. No to tattoos or someone looking for sex on a first date.

Embarrassing Moments?

No, although we both had a giggle observing a rather large lady order a huge three-course lunch for herself.

Did Sparks Fly?

Not at all for me. There’s no point in waffling around when it comes to matters of the heart. I got the feeling David was flirting with me, though. He kept complimenting me on the colour of my eyes. But I batted his lines away, telling him curtly there’s nothing special about blue eyes – he has them too.

See him again?

Perhaps if David was in my neighbourhood. It would be for a coffee and not for romance. He did mention we should exchange numbers but there is no point, if I am honest.

What do you think he thought of you?

I have a feeling David was quite taken with me. At the end of the date David said ‘Would you mind if we had a kiss on the lips?’ I was fine with that. Was it a nice kiss? It was soft and pleasant but not exciting.

Would your friends like him?

They’d probably say David is ok and leave it at that.

David, 82

Dating Past?

I was married for 25 years and I’ve been widowed since I was 49. The last relationship I had ended six years ago. I’m very involved in my daughter’s life, she’s cabin crew and I look after her dogs – we call them the grand-puppies – when she’s working. I did get burned with one woman I was seeing. They say money doesn’t change you but she came into £500,000 and within six months it was ‘bye-bye David’. She dumped me because, according to her, I couldn’t afford her lifestyle.

Pre-Date Nerves?

No, I’m a silver surfer when it comes to dating – thanks to my 20-year-old grandson showing me the ropes online. I’m outgoing and dancing is a very important part of my social life. I joke it’s the only way I can put my arms around the waist of a younger woman without getting slapped.

VITAL STATISTICS

Widowed, with two adult daughters and a grandson, 20.

Current Role

Retired maintenance fitter.

Would Like To Meet

A tall, active woman who loves dancing and has a gregarious nature. My teenage crush was the 1960s singer Kathy Kirby.

First Impressions?

Good, I stood up when Regine arrived at our table and kissed her on each cheek. She looked nothing short of stunning in a purple jumper with a kind of short top over it. I did tell her she has got beautiful eyes and she immediately replied ‘so have you’. I was glowing! We were off to a good start.

Easy To Talk To?

Yes. Regine’s father was a German scientist and came to the UK during the war, helping to develop the atomic bomb.

He was based at Aldermaston. It was an unusual coincidence because when I last worked, my position was at Aldermaston, too. We both knew villages near the site.

Regine is a good listener. She was very sympathetic to me being dumped when my significant ex came into money.

Embarrassing Moments?

Not really, no.

Did Sparks Fly?

Yes, there were plenty of fireworks. After our main courses, I decided to test the romantic waters and reached out to hold Regine’s hand for a few minutes. She didn’t resist! We started with a kiss on each cheek and ended the date with a warm and lingering kiss on the lips. I’d call that a result.

See her again?

The only problem is I live in Cheshire and Regine lives in London – she told me I was too far away for her to stay in touch.

What do you think she thought of you?

Regine noted we got along well and have the same ideas. I did reassure her it’s important to continue to be physically close with someone and she agreed.

Would your family like her?

Yes – I took a selfie of us together and showed the picture to my daughters. They agreed she looked like a fantastic woman.

REGINE’S VERDICT: 7/10

Liked? David is a thoroughly decent chap.

Regrets? None.

Coffee or cab? Cab.

DAVID’S VERDICT: 9/10

Liked? Physical closeness with Regine.

Regrets? None, we were together for three hours.

Coffee or cab? Coffee.
