For the most part, many famous faces take real pride in their dwellings and spare no expense when it comes to fashioning the interiors and picking out state-of-the-art furniture.

The best celebrity homes are aspirational: they allow common folk to daydream about one day being able to own something equally grandiose.

The less impressive spaces, however, tend to fall short of expectations. Perhaps the space is cluttered, or maybe the decor is off.

First up is Julia Fox’s humble two-bedroom New York City apartment, which was subject to ridicule after she gave fans a tour in 2023.

Taking to TikTok, the Uncut Gems star, 35, showed off her ‘underwhelming’ Manhattan dwelling, which included stacks of shoeboxes and leftover items stored away in a corner.

Children’s toys created obstacles on the floor, and her bedroom and tables around the apartment were covered in knick-knacks that made the home look uncomfortably messy.

‘For me, personally, I don’t like excessive displays of wealth; they make me feel icky, especially people who have really big houses,’ Fox, who famously previously dated Kanye West, said.

‘It’s just really wasteful when there are so many homeless people in this country, and I’m just not really like that.’

The apartment resembles how many ordinary New Yorkers live, although it appeared she didn’t even have an armchair or a couch to sit on, as she had transformed the living room into her bedroom.

Social media users couldn’t get over the mess, with one writing on Reddit: ‘There’s too much s**t in that apartment, it would drive me nuts.’

However, another said: ‘The most normal living area I’ve seen for a celebrity.’

Cynthia Nixon

Continuing with the theme of clutter and normalcy, Cynthia Nixon’s Montauk home surprised fans when she shared a glimpse inside it back in May.

The Sex and the City star reportedly purchased the three-bedroom, two-bathroom property, located in New York’s East Hampton, for $1.7 million in 2010.

Earlier this year, Nixon, 59, stunned social media users when she unveiled her no-frills kitchen.

While some perhaps had expected Nixon to be the owner of a luxurious, state-of-the-art culinary paradise, the actress instead revealed a messy, old-school space.

The actress also boasted a refreshingly unpretentious moka pot on her gas stove for making coffee.

Fans in the comments section were left stunned over her cozy kitchen.

Bethenny Frankel’s $4.5 million home in Boca Raton, Florida, was recently branded ‘hideous,’ ‘cheap’ and ‘boring’ by unimpressed onlookers.

The former Real Housewives of New York City star, 55, bought the five-bedroom, five-and-a-half bathroom house earlier this year after relocating to the sunshine state with her 15-year-old daughter, Brynne.

Hitting back, she said: ‘I love to live there, and I make (my homes) exactly what I want them to be, but they’re designed as investments.

‘So, for example, my Hamptons house (that I bought) for $2.675 (million) I just sold for $6 (million).’

She also defended her use of neutral tones throughout her abode, explaining that because she moves so often, she installs colors that anybody could ‘relate to’.

The bathrooms in the massive home feature very little furniture, with a modern bathtub and floor-to-ceiling windows that reveal the foliage outside.
