An Australian woman has been left shocked after opening a box of Cadbury Favourites only to discover that several of the chocolates contained private documents instead of chocolate.

The female, who goes by the name of Poppy online, was enjoying a camping trip with friends when she cracked open the much-loved $14 assortment, expecting the usual mix of Cherry Ripe, Boost and Dairy Milk.

In a follow-up video addressing the speculation, Poppy explained exactly what happened and shut down rumours that the incident was staged or a prank.

‘If you haven’t seen my last video, I’ll give a quick brief update on what’s happened. Basically, I open a box of favourites while camping, five of them were filled with various bits of paper instead of chocolate,’ she said.

She was adamant the box had been purchased normally and brought on the trip untouched.

Despite some viewers suggesting she should have noticed the box felt lighter than usual, Poppy said there was nothing to raise suspicion beforehand.

Even puzzling, she said the wrappers appeared completely intact.

As the video gained traction, viewers became increasingly curious about what the papers actually were – and Poppy revealed the contents were as random as they were confusing.

‘They asked a bunch of questions, so I gave them all the details of the actual box and everything, and emailed them through photos of all the paper,’ she said.

Despite the confusion, Poppy said she has enjoyed watching the internet run wild with theories.

‘You guys have been hilarious, the conspiracy theories, the heist floor plans. The comments are genuinely so funny, it has been the best reading them,’ she said.

‘I actually don’t think this is some underground, criminal organisation vibe, even though that would be kind of crazy.’

‘I don’t know what’s going on. But Cadbury has been really amazing, and they are addressing the issue as we speak.’

A spokesperson for Mondelēz International, which owns Cadbury, confirmed the company is investigating.

‘We’re in contact with the consumer and are currently investigating this case,’ the spokesperson told Daily Mail.

‘Favourites pieces are made, wrapped and quality-checked at three of our manufacturing sites across Australia.’

They explained that Cadbury Dairy Milk pieces are made in Tasmania, while bars including Twirl Crispy, Cherry Ripe and Boost are produced in Victoria at Ringwood and Scoresby, before being automatically packed into Favourites boxes at the Ringwood site.

‘At this stage, there’s no evidence of a broader quality issue, but we’re looking into all possibilities across our supply chain, and we will follow up directly with the consumer once our investigation is complete.’
