Matt Damon Mercilessly Mocked After Making Language Faux Pas During Red Carpet Interview In Spanish

Matt Damon has been speaking Spanish since he was a teenager, but critics have slammed the actor for his sub-par skills during a recent interview.
Despite his Argentinean wife, Luciana Barrosospeaking fluent Spanish, some have argued the 55-year-old actor hasn’t quite grasped the language, and mocked his attempts on the red carpet as he promoted new film The Rip.
Damon, along with co-star and long time best friend Ben Affleck53, answered some interview questions in Spanish, in a clip which has since gone viral online.
‘How can it be that after all these years Matt Damon still has s****y Spanish? Ben Affleck already knew that he speaks better than JLomuch better,’ declared one user.
Someone else agreed, writing: ‘Matt is married to an Argentine and Affleck speaks better hahahahahahaha.’
Meanwhile, Affleck impressed audiences with his flawless language skills – with fans immediately noticing the difference.
‘Ben’s Spanish accent is genuinely amazing, it sounds so colloquial. If he said that Spanish is his first language and he just hasn’t spoken it for a while, I would believe it,’ one fan gushed.
‘Ben’s accent is great, he knows the words and it shows, Matt’s pretty okay, like someone who spent one semester in a Spanish speaking country lol,’ wrote another.

Someone else wrote: ‘Matt’s wife is from Argentina and he speaks it “reserved,” Ben doesn’t care and speaks like someone from Northern Mexico lol.’
‘Matt sounds like me, someone that isn’t fluent in Spanish but grew up in a Latino family,’ commented another. ‘Ben sounds like he actually speaks the language. Not sure if he does, but he’s very convincing.’
Others commended them both of their efforts.
‘I’ve seen some of Ben’s Spanish interviews and although he struggles with some vocabulary and grammar the effort and energy he brings when speaking Spanish is much appreciated,’ one fan wrote.
‘Matt’s pronunciation is pretty okay too, not as confident as Affleck but I have definitely heard worse from other people.’
Unfortunately for Damon, his Spanish wasn’t the the only thing that was mocked at whilst promoting his new film.
In a video shared by Entertainment Tonight on X, formerly Twitter, his 17-year-old daughter Gia didn’t hesitate to poke fun at her famous father’s awkward pose on the red carpet.
She immediately asked: ‘Why are you standing like this?’ before imitating his position by hunching forward and dramatically flaring her arms out to the sides as he walked back over to his family after taking some photos.

But Damon appeared far from chagrined by his daughter’s teasing as he burst into laughter and copied her exaggerated impression of him.
The actor was also joined by wife Luciana and their four daughters, Alexia, 25, Isabella, 19, Stella, 15 and Gia.
The Rip follows a group of Miami cops who stumble upon a multi-million cash haul, sparking distrust and paranoia amongst them.
Affleck plays Detective Sergeant JD Byrne while Damon stars as Lieutenant Dane Dumars in the Netflix cop drama, with Teyana Taylor joining the cast of the film, fresh off her Golden Globes win last week.
Damon and his wife first met at a Miami bar in 2003 while the actor was filming Stuck On You, and went on to tie the knot three years later, with the actor becoming stepfather to her daughter Alexia, and going on to welcome their three girls.
