See The Sun At Its Largest Size On January 3, 2026

The information office of the Moscow Astronomical Observatory reported that the Earth will be at its closest point to the sun, known as its perigee, on Saturday, January 3, 2026 at 8:15 pm Moscow time, at a distance of approximately 147,099,586 kilometers (0.9833 astronomical units).
According to the observatory, the apparent diameter of the Sun on this day will appear larger than at any other time during the year, at 32 arc minutes and 35 seconds, making the difference between the diameter of the Sun in January and July noticeable in professional photographs when placed side by side.
Astronomers have warned of the risk of eye burns when observing or photographing the sun without using special filters. The source explained that January is not the best month for monitoring, but during it it is possible to follow new formations on the surface of the sun using a telescope or binoculars, provided that a solar filter is used when observing visually.

Where does the first sunrise occur on Earth?
Sunrise is the time in the morning when we see the upper edge of the sun appearing on the horizon, as a result of the apparent daily movement in the sky, caused by the Earth’s rotation on its axis.
