Delta’s planes aren’t the only thing that seem to be ‘taking off’ at the minute.

In a bold move signaling a new chapter for America’s legacy carrier, Delta Airlines has just unveiled its long anticipated uniform refresh, proudly dubbed the ‘Distinctly Delta’ collection.

Designed with look, performance and pride in mind, the slick uniforms were developed with the direct input from the employee base – in fact then 65,000 Delta staffers were part of the process.

Gone are the controversial purple tones of yesteryear, and in their place, a color palette that screams sophistication.

Aiming to be a ‘seamless extension of the airline’s brand identity,’ Delta’s signature colors blue and red have made their return.

‘Deep navy and premium shades of burgundy and red are being reintroduced with aviation-inspired names like Navigator Navy, Boarding Burgundy and Runway Red,’ reads a press release.

The standout star is the rebirth of the signature wrap dress – a timeless classic reimagined for 2025, providing flight attendants with a dash of old-school glamour alongside essential modern-day comfort.

‘Our people said “bring it back,” so we did – without hesitation,’ said Delta spokesperson Ekrem Dimbiloglu, Managing Director of Uniform and Onboard Brand Experience, emphasizing the importance the company places on incorporating employees into decision making.

Delta’s new ensembles boast crisp tailoring and sleek accessories, including Jacquard ties and elegant scarfs that feature luxury brand Missoni’s unique craftsmanship, complete by flashing deltas iconic widget logo.

Even the workwear received an upgrade, as the below wing teams – the unsung heroes that keep the planes moving smoothly – will sport heavy duty gear with breathable safety-certified gear.

This collection is not just any revamp but bears special significance in marking a milestone in Delta’s centennial year, while transcending into the next 100.

‘We’re not just dressing for today,’ Dimbiloglu said. ‘We’re dressing for the Delta we are becoming.’

The uniform has already sparked dialogue online as enthusiastic Reddit users have taken to the platform to dissect the changes.

One flight attendant shared the images, writing: ‘I can personally see myself wearing all of them. And I love that they can be worn by many different body types.’

Another excitedly volunteered: ‘I am going to make sure to work on the first day of uniform rollout, wear one of these dresses and I will walk through the airport as if I own it.’

‘I’m so happy with them! They look professional and navy looks good on everyone,’ penned another ecstatic user.

Whilst the majority approve the updated get-up, a few still yearn for the retired purple outfit.

One user admitted, ‘These are cute, especially the burgundy, however I really wish they kept the color purple with a different material/dye.

‘That’s what set Delta apart from other us carriers, now everyone has the same colors.’

Delta’s previous plum-colored ensemble made headlines in the past for all the wrong reasons.

A lawsuit was filed by employees in 2020, who claimed the uniforms, made by Lands’ End, caused health issues due to chemicals used for wrinkle-resistance, leading to symptoms like breathing problems, rashes and hair loss.

‘I noticed right away after I put the uniforms on that I had shortness of breath and I have been a runner my whole life,’ said one anonymous Delta flight attendant in speaking to the Guardian.

Another claimed she observed huge rashes all over her body that made it impossible for her to sleep.

The 2020 lawsuit alleged that chemicals like formaldehyde caused these issues and also cited manufacturing defects such as poor stitching and incorrect sizing.

However, the legal case concluded with a court ruling in favor of the uniform maker, Lands’ End, in October 2025, finding insufficient evidence of defects or causation.

A spokesperson for Delta made sure to rectify it’s previous reputation with this new launch, stating: ‘Delta’s new uniform program, years in the making, is than just fabric and fit –  it’s a testament to Delta’s commitment to its people and its brand.’
