Dayot Upamecano keeps cards close on transfer links

Back in early October,Bild‘s Tobias Altschaffl andSky Germany‘s Florian Plettenberg both claimed Liverpool were interested in Upamecano.

Bayern want the defender to sign a new deal but the Frenchman is yet to commit, only furthering rumours of a move away from the Bundesliga.

Upamecano was asked about his future byThe Teamand replied: “My agent is taking care of it. We will make the right decision.

“I am receiving good advice. I am focused on this season and my goals with the club and the national team. I don’t have the headspace for it.”

With the 27-year-old’s current contract expiring next summer, Liverpool could view a free transfer for Upamecano has too good to turn down.

While he hasn’t kicked on as he threatened to at RB Leipzig when he was partnering Ibrahima Konatethe Reds are lacking in the centre-half position and he could be a good back-up option.

Whether he is good enough to take Liverpool back to the top of European football, though, that’s another matter.

Liverpool FC: On this day

By Joanna Durkan

While perhaps not a pertinent day in Liverpool’s history, James Milner notched his 600th Premier League appearance on this day in2022.

It came in a 3-1 win against Southamptonagainst one of their many managers of recent times Nathan Jones, with Roberto Firmino and Darwin Nunez (twice) on the scoresheet.

Why it stuck out is that Milner, currently playing for Brightonis now nine league appearances away from becoming the Premier League‘s leading appearance-maker.

Gareth Barry currently holds the record with 653 games, with Milner currently on 645. He’s made seven outings for the Seagulls so far this season and only injury, you expect, will stop him from surpassing his former teammate.
