بتوقيت بيروت — A new discovery that increases the possibility of a viable environment on the satellite of Saturn “Ecsellados”

Encelados, the sixth largest moons of Saturn, is one of the most prominent candidates to search for a life outside the Earth. Cassini’s mission data, which concluded in 2017, showed that this moon emanates a pillar of water ice molecules and vapor that rushes from its interior at its southern pole.

Later, the James Webb Telescope picked up the column of about 9,656 km in space, and its source is believed to be a salty ocean under the ice shell of Ansellados.

Researchers, who are studying Cassini’s mission data, have discovered the presence of organic compounds within this column, including molecules that have not been monitored there before.

Dr. Nizir Khawaja, the scientist of the planets at the Free University of Berlin and the main author of the study, described these results as increasing the complexity of chemistry under the surface of Ecsellados, indicating that this complexity enhances the possibility of a vibrant environment on the moon.

The researchers in the Nature Astronomy magazine indicated that their previous studies revealed the presence of organic materials and salts inside ice granules present in the “Eps of E” around Saturn, which consists of the substances of ejaculation by Ecsellados.

However, Dr. Khawaja notes that the materials in the “Ep Ephe” around Saturn are months or years, which means that their composition may be affected by radiation. On the contrary, the new study analyzes data taken from ice granules within the same column, which is only minutes old, making it a pure sample from under the surface.

The new results, based on the data of the cosmic dust analysis tool, confirm the presence of organic compounds previously monitored in the episode, in addition to new types that were not previously discovered in the column.

While these results do not prove the existence of a life on Encelados, Dr. Khawaja indicates that they indicate complex chemical paths that are able to form vehicles that may be related to life. Also, these discoveries support the European Space Agency plans to verify the presence of signs of life on this moon.
