Nothing is hotter this festive season than nostalgia – and ‘Ralph Lauren Christmas’ is the trend everyone is aiming for. In fact, I’ve just paid a visit to the brand’s outdoor pop-up in London’s Sloane Square, where cosy wooden cabins featuring a Ralph Lauren gift shop and hot chocolate stall can be found, plus Christmas trees – a huge one decorated in plaid and velvet, plus a movie-esque truck overflowing with them.

I am a sucker for this sort of nostalgic stuff – and it’s very clever branding to boot. This year I have found myself googling red velvet bows and antique ornaments to decorate my own home.

So what exactly is a Ralph Lauren Christmas? It’s festive inspiration from the brand’s classic aesthetic, characterised by traditional patterns such as tartan and plaid, luxurious textures – think velvet and leather – plus deep jewel tones like burgundy and forest green. Throw in a roaring fire and you’ve nailed it. However, it’s not just décor that nostalgia has influenced but what we want to wear this festive season, too…
