A Future Partnership Between Iran And Iraq In Cybersecurity


The Media and Public Relations Center of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology quoted Muhammad Hussein Sheikhi, head of the institute, as saying that during a meeting held before the visit of Ammar Salman Jaber, the charge d’affaires of Iraq in Tehran, and his entourage, the institute presented its scientific, research and technological capabilities.

Sheikhi initially presented a report on the institute’s tasks, achievements, strategic plans, and specialized capabilities, while the heads of research centers reviewed the most prominent projects, laboratory infrastructure, and technology transfer capabilities in specialized fields.

In another part of the visit, the Charge d’Affairs of Iraq explained the organizational structure and the reality of the communications and information technology sector in his country, identifying three main axes for expanding technological cooperation, which are: enhancing the security and stability of infrastructure, employing artificial intelligence technologies at the governmental and industrial levels, and developing specialized human capital.

He pointed out that recent developments in the region make strengthening cybersecurity and developing local technologies in Iraq a strategic necessity.

Sheikhi concluded the discussions by stressing that Iran welcomes expansion Technology cooperation With Iraq, stressing the existence of great capabilities to initiate joint projects in the fields of communications, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, standards and regulation. He added that developing human capital through designing specialized training programs and cadre empowerment initiatives represents one of the important pillars of this cooperation.

The preparation of a joint road map was also considered an essential step to facilitate long-term cooperation and determine the course of joint actions.

During the visit, the Iraqi delegation was briefed on the Institute’s comprehensive laboratories for communications technology and network security, where they learned about the specialized infrastructure and achievements related to the localization of equipment, the provision of verification and accreditation services, and the evaluation of communications network equipment.

The members of the delegation expressed their appreciation for the capabilities presented, stressing Iraq’s readiness to establish a network of scientific and technical cooperation between specialized centers in both countries.
