- Moonlight Companies voluntarily recalled California-grown yellow and white peaches sold at retailers, including Trader Joe’s, due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.

If you’ve recently purchased some peaches, then it’s time to check your fridge for an important recall.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) published a recall announcement for
Moonlight Companies, which is “voluntarily recalling California-grown conventional yellow and white peaches,” as they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.
According to the announcement, the recalled peaches were sold in stores across the U.S. between September 16 and October 29. They were sold either individually or in multi-packs. (The announcement notably clarified that the recall does not include peaches bearing a PLU or words “Washington” and/or “Organic” on them.)
The recalled individual yellow or white peaches will have a small sticker with PLU 4401 or 4044 and one of these lot codes: 01PCLC, 03PCAF, 106PCLF, 113PCAF, 113PCLF, 129PCLF, 134PCLF, 142PCLF, 150PCLF, 151PCLF, 159PCABA, 159PCABB, 159PCPG10, 20, 22PCAB, 22PCPG10A, 22PCPG10B, 22PCP8A, 22PCPG8B, 22PCPG8C, 23, 25, 30PCEN, 40LT, 40YP#3, 44PCLC, 44PCLCB, 45, 51PCLC, 51PCLCB, 86PCAF, 69PWPR, 79PWPRT.
The multipacks will have a UPC 8 10248 03165 6 or UPC 8 98429 00209 1 with the same lot codes as the individual packs. There are also multipacks of white peaches labeled “Peppermint Peaches,” which have UPCs 8 98429 00266 4, 8 10248 03163 2, 8 10248 03087 1, or 8 10248 03186 1. Additionally, there is one set of multipacks of yellow peaches sold under the Kroger brand label with UPC 11110 18174 and the same lot codes as above.

The recall was initiated after inspectors found Listeria monocytogenes in the “packing facility environment.”
Trader Joe’s sent a separate email alert to customers noting that the peaches were sold in its stores in the following states: Arizona, California, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Delaware, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, North Carolina, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, Nevada, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Utah, Virginia, and Vermont.
The grocery chain stated that if you purchased Moonlight Yellow Peaches from Trader Joe’s in the affected states during the specified date range, “please discard them or return them to your local Trader Joe’s for a refund.”
The FDA added that no illnesses have been reported in connection with this recall. However, it also noted that Listeria monocytogenes is an organism that can cause “serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.” Healthy individuals may experience “only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea,” which should still be avoided. Furthermore, “Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.”
