Since Aunt Bessie’s puddings are made with herbs and spices, including rosemary, cumin, sage and horseradish, some tasters might have expected the flavour to be too strong – in fact, a third described it as ‘overpowering’.
Priced at £2 for 220g (pack of four), they weren’t too costly and, given that the ones Which? tried didn’t use beef dripping, they were also suitable for vegetarians.
Tesco’s Yorkshire puddings placed third, though they too received a score of 72 per cent.
Sold as Tesco Finest 6 Beef Dripping Yorkshire Puddings, they fell down for being ‘smaller-than-average’.

None of them were bad – but none of them were outstanding either.
Recognised for their ‘good outer texture’, Waitrose No.1 6 Beef Dripping Yorkshire Puddings, priced at £3 for 252g (pack of six), received a score of 69 per cent. They were, however, found to be too soft on the inside for most of the tasters.

In seventh place, with a score of 67 per cent, were Lidl’s Deluxe Beef Dripping Yorkshire Puddings, which came in at £1.99 for 288g (pack of six). They were credited for their crispy outer texture but fell down due to lack of flavour.
And, with a score of 65 per cent, Morrisons’ The Best 6 Yorkshire Puddings with Beef Dripping, priced at £1.99 for 240g (pack of six), came in last place.
Many tasters were disappointed with the texture, finding the outside not crispy enough and the inside not firm enough.
