The Aussie Man Who Hasnt Taken A Single Day Off Work In 36 YEARS

The next time you complain about needing a holiday right after returning from one, spare a thought for this business owner who hasn’t had a day off work in 36 years.

Vietnamese tailor Nam Huynh has been running his family business Dejour Jeans at his Brunswick East shop in Melbourne for than three decades.

The owner, known as a local legend in his city, has been working every day since 1989, sewing custom denim jeans for generations.

The denim brand has attracted a huge cult-following, with shoppers lining up to get their hands on the famously made jeans.

Speaking to The Fox’s Fifi, Fev & NickNam opened up about his love for running his business without taking a holiday in 36 years – that’s than 13,000 days in a row.

‘This is a local legend, Nam Huynh, who has not had a day off in 36 years. This is so impressive. Not one day off… have you pushed through sickness, personal things, you just keep working?’ co-host Fifi Box said.

Nam works six days a week in his retail shop on Sydney Road while spending his seventh day in his warehouse designing jeans and getting stock ready for the week.

‘I don’t even have a day off,’ he told the radio trio.

Amazed, co-host Brendan Fevola asked Nam whether he goes out to dinner or anywhere nice after work, to which he replied: ‘No.’

‘All work… after working all day, I feel tired, I want to go home and relax,’ he said.

‘I love my work. To me, a day off or not, I don’t mind.’

Reflecting back at all the work he’s done over the decades, Nam said he believes he’s made millions of jeans.

The hard-working owner said he hasn’t thought about taking a holiday.

‘I will wait until customers are sick of me and then I will take a day off,’ he said.

When asked which jean cuts were currently popular, Nam said wide-leg and high-waisted styles were among his best-sellers.

The iconic denim brand has than 680 rave reviews, boasting a near-perfect rating of 4.5 out of 5 stars.

‘Best fitting jeans I have ever worn for very reasonable prices,’ one said.

‘Never had a pair of jeans that fit so well and the quality is amazing. I bought two pairs and I’m coming back for . Thank you,’ another shared.

‘Never shopping for jeans anywhere else other than Dejour! If you haven’t already gotten a custom pair from this Melbourne Institute, you’re definitely missing out,’ one revealed.

‘A Sydney Road institution. $75 for a perfectly altered pair of jeans in this economy is all anyone needs,’ another added.

What makes Dejour Jeans stand out from other denim brands is its free alterations.

‘Efficient and professional service. I picked two pairs of jeans and the staff member selected the right size immediately and fitted them to my body. The price was reasonable at $85 each and tailoring was included in the price,’ one shopper said.

‘I was told they would be ready in an hour and I came back five minutes early expecting to wait but they were ready when I arrived.

‘The alterations were neat and finished to a high standard which was extremely impressive given the turnaround. As someone with atypical proportions this was the most painless experience I’ve had buying jean.’
